I have a Samsung EVO 850ssd as an external hard drive. I am copying all my photos currently on there (so JPEGS) to an internal regular 7200rpm HDD. I understand that write speeds are much slower (say <50mb/s) but the speeds are so erratic. It goes to kb/s then can be around 3-4mb/s. Very frustrating.
I have the SSD in an external USB 3 casing which is plugged into a USB 3 port. Sometimes, the drive just disconnects.

Any thoughts? Note I have AW 15R3
    Thanks

So the port on the right side of my AW seems fine. The one on the left slower/ patchy. The thunderbolt on the back of the laptop (which I plugged into via a USB to TB convertor) also dodgy.

    weird

I get consistently around 100mb/s on the right port
