I have a 13r3 and the right side USB port doesn't seem to recognize anything. Could anyone point me toward a way to troubleshoot this?

    Thanks

Bumping this for help and also to add that the usb port in question has power and will charge a cell phone. It just won't recognize any devices. I have updated the bios and according to Windows it has the latest drivers. So far Dell chat has not been able to help.

Android. Also the light on a USB then drive will be on when plugged in but it doesn't show in file explorer. It does not even show "device not recognized".

MTP, correct? If so, go to device manager and choose update driver and choose the option called Let me pick the driver to install. You should see two MTP device driver listed, choose the second driver and you'll see incompatible driver warning, select yes and your device should work.
Also, check the usb cable can transfer/deliver both power and data.

When plugging the phone into this port, I do not even get the usb option to chose MTP. The battery indicator just changes to show charging.

When you mention the cable, do you mean inside the laptop attached to the motherboard? I'm not afraid to take it apart, I just wanted to clarify before opening it up. I assumed the USB port would all be soldered to the MB.

    I meant USB cable itself.
Are you sure you enabled USB debugging in android phone under Devleopment mode which can be achieved by clicking the build Number 7 times.

OEM cable for phone. USB debugging enabled. Still nothing. I don't even get the chime when the device is plugged in, just power.

On my phone (LG G5) I believe it is listed as "Select USB Configuration". Which is set to MTP.

The driver thing you mentioned did not show up because it is not showing as an mtp device.

I have never plugged the phone into this port before. But I really am not worried about the phone.
A few months ago I was able to connect my usb steering wheel to this port. Then it started working off and on. Now nothing works on this usb port .

Have you tried ePSA test and select USB test whilst plugging your device on the same faulty port and if it works and detects in ePSA then it might be driver related issue.

I just ran the ePSA test. Usb devices passed . When I plug thumb drive into the working port I get the message "New USB Device (Infinitive 0781:5595) was Installed".
When plugged into the port with problems, nothing happens.

It means your USB port is dead. If you're covered by warranty then capture the result using your phone and ask dell to fix or repair it. Most likely you need a new board.
