I must really be a Luddite when it comes to the Synaptic touch pad. All I really want is to be able to scroll up and down by swiping the right side with one finger. This feature always seems to be gone with new drivers or I am missing something. The only 2 finger gesture I want is to zoom in and out. I didn't give it too much time but I wasn't able to figure out a way to have one finger scrolling with the Alienware 17 r2 driver. Is it there and I am just missing something? Luckily I just installed the Asus G75jw win7 Synaptic driver. It seems a little laggy at times but I can adjust the settings to make the touchpad work the way I want it to. Hopfully someone can tell me that I am just missing something on the proper driver to make it work the same way.

The newer drivers will only work with 2 finger scrolling. You'd need to try to change the settings on the control panel, however it may have been removed as a whole.

This is crazy, I need the one-finger rotational scroll as I've always used it on all my laptops.. There should be a way to enable it!
It is the most intuitive scrolling technique ever designed.

Possible solution from this link: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19605349
Try and let us know if it works..

    Try this:

    1) Go into c:\program files\DellTPad\

    2) In this dir I have

    a) DellTouchpad.exe: this is the app called from control panel whose picture you posted.

    b) DellTPad.exe alternate utility to set touchpad setting. When launching this I have this option (translating into english) "one finger actions/multi-finger actions", and then it allows you to set single finger vertical/horizontal scrolling.
