I was playing Project CARS @ 1440p, plugged in, and with everything going well. I did expect the laptop to run a bit warm (shoving a full-blown 7700hq and a 1060 in a laptop does that), but I'm wondering if everything is OK. While my CPU temps did not get out of the 75 to 80 Deg C range after about 15 min of racing with 19AI cars on GFE default settings, my GPU was at the low 90s C.

I bought the AW13R3 from HIDevolution ( @Donald@HIDevolution is a class act, BTW), with the CLU for the CPU (which seems to be working) and the ICD7 for the GPU treatment along with replacing of the pads for optimal behavior. I am aware of the limits of small chassis, I just want to make sure that this is an OK temp to have.

PS: the OLED screen is a sight to behold, if you can spring for it, GET IT!

That seems a bit high to me (although I'll fire up some games at 1440p and double-check later tonight just to make sure as I normally downscale things to 1080p).

For gaming on the 1440p, low 90's is not at all abnormal. GPU temps will be higher on the 1440p, than on a 1080p.

    Nothing to worry about...GAME ON!

    WHOOHOO!!!! thanks!

PS: I got Phoenix's clean Win10 install in here and the snappiness of the system is unbelievable. And the 960 PRO is just insanity!

@Phoenix will be so pleased to hear that his Windows 10 magic is working for you. :bigwink:

Yes, the Samsung 960's are a nice breakthrough in blazing speed...especially for large sequential reads and writes!

Mind you, the 960 Pro also maxes out the 4K Random Read/Write speeds as well. It can't get any faster than this, at least on the current platform

Make sure you have the back elevated (I use two coke bottle caps) or andecent little cooling pad. This will help reduce temps as well. Also install Intel xtu and undervolt the CPU atleast 80mv or higher if it is stable for you. lt will drop the CPU temps drastically.

Engineering Scale is exact width (12") of notebook. Better angle for typing

After about a half hour of XCOM 2 on 1440p my CPU maxed out at 68c and my GPU 82c (with the average temperatures falling a little bellow that at 61c and 79c respectively). Although I'm also running my CPU with an Undervolt and have a PCH mod to help cool it and keep temperatures down so if you're on stock voltage and have a bare PCH then that might explain the difference.

I have seen that. Coke bottle caps are cheap and as effective :)

I don't type on the actual laptop keyboard. Actually hardly ever do. One I like mechanical keyboards and two I don't want to kill the resale value by rubbing off the coating lol. So I use external kb and mice all the time.

I have to figure out how Undervolting works. Is 50mv a safe start point? Also, what is this "PCH mod"?

I like the laptop keyboard much more than even most desktop keyboards I've used, barring of course, mechanicals and Topres. For being completely portable, it's absolutely awesome.

I would use ThrottleStop to Undervolt and follow this guide if you're not exactly sure what to do. You're not going to damage your CPU by giving it less voltage and the worst thing that might happen is that your system Blue Screens or locks up and you'll need to add a little voltage back to make things stable again.

I've got a 6700HQ and my current UV is -200mv and it seems stable so far although the KabyLake chips tend to want more juices than the SkyLake ones and what works for one CPU might fail horribly on another.

And, about the PCH mod, my system has been worked over by @iunlock and he's modded passive cooling in for that and also tweaked the overall cooling system.
