I did this for games, as I wasn't getting 2560x1440 as an option for resolution in most/any games. I still run 4k with 150% scaling in windows for non-gaming tasks however as I think overall you get better image quality/scaling this way

Hello everyone , have a question ? I have Alienware 17 R4 , GTX 1070 , with display (B173HAN01.0) and cabel
[ BAP20 FHD EDP CABEL DC02C00D600 REV:1.0(A00) ]. I bought a motherboard R5 , with gtx 1080. When I rearrange the motherboard ,it does not display anything , and the BIOS gives an error 2-7 ( not connected LCD ) . Do I need to change the display and a new cable? Or even just change the cable ? or I bought a motherboard with faulty output to the display ? -

For the B173ZAN01 series panels:
Has anyone compared brightness between .0 vs newer versions? Panelook.com says the .0 one is 400, and all later versions are 300....
Anyone have any experience with newer revisions such as B173ZAN01.3 or higher? I would think a newer version would be preferable... assuming I can get my hands on one. Or am I off base? I don't care about G-Sync.
Is AUO still the preferred manufacturer for 4K panels, or is there anything newer, better, or at least comparable that has been released lately?
Hopefully this thread isn't completely dead yet. -
Hi , tried to put this display (B173ZAN01.4) , at the first connection everything was good , even in settings exposed 120 Hertz . But as soon as I reboot the laptop , BIOS check goes well , the Windows icon of loading too is , but then just a black screen , the computer works but does not display the image . If you go to safe mode , everything is displayed normally . I so understand that Windows does not want to automatically download 120 Hertz .
If the cat is faced with such problems , waiting for an answer -

The more I have it in 1920x1080, and not as stated 4K

As I have before that was B173HAN01.0Last edited by a moderator: Aug 14, 2019 -
I much rather have 4k 120hz vs gsync 60hz any day. As of right now there are none but will be coming from AUO hopefully soon. Asus already announced it will be optioned to their laptops. We'll see if it will work with the R4.

I ended up going with the older B173ZAN01.0 just because of a good price and realizing my R4 is already pretty old (at least by my standards haha). I'm still good with it... I hardly game nowadays.
The 120Hz still sounds nice though. Hopefully more than Asus will start offering 17.3" 4K. Lately there it's been hard to find. -
Hey all,
Looking to upgrade my Alienware 17 R5 screen from the 1080p to the 1440p 120hz monitor. I found the monitor https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32852357957.html but I also understand I need to switch the cable from a 30pin to a 40pin. Can I just get a 40pin connector https://www.aliexpress.com/item/328...rchweb0_0,searchweb201602_,searchweb201603_52
or do I need to use the 30pin and use a converter of some sort? -
I would not risk buying on aliexpress, I purchased QHD screen B173QTN01.4 with Dell Part JYWWF on panel from aliexpress but it did not work with nvidia drivers. Probably it was just fake label. Then I got refurbished JYWWF on ebay, only then it worked.
Some new QHD panel on aliexpress might work, it is about recognition or certification with nvidia drivers. For me, I would not risk. -

Those people in China make panels looking exactly as it is made for Dell, I could not find the difference, honestly. Even the part number JYWWF was there, along with manufacturer date, AU optronics words etc. They are just faking labels. And those panels probably wont work with nvidia.
My second choice was refurbished, used panel that was extracted from Dell. I got it on ebay and everything is working as it should and as it worked with original panel my laptop came with. So my advice: look for refurbished panel.Last edited: Oct 4, 2019 -

I just purchased an Alienware 17R5 (model number is AW17R5-7405SLV-PUS), and I don't believe it has Tobii Eye Tracking (I'm a tractor-trailer driver who's currently on the road; my laptop was delivered today, but I haven't even physically seen it, yet). It has the FHD 60Hz screen, and I want to upgrade it to the QHD screen. I already have the screen (I didn't purchase it from Dell, but it's a genuine AU Optronics screen, part number B173QTN01.4, which is the exact screen Dell uses that fixed the "banding" issue some people had with the B173QTN1.0 version). I purchased the WTNR3 cable, but I'm concerned that the cable won't work on a 17R5 without the Tobii Eye Tracking; at least, not without losing the webcam (while I never use a webcam, I'd really like all my hardware to work as it's supposed to).
So, can you fill me in on your swap details?
FYI - I'm using this QHD panel in an Acer Predator 17, and it works great! Well, that is, when Windows 10 loads. Prior to that, it doesn't display my Predator boot logo, nor will it display my BIOS screens. It also doesn't work when I boot Windows into Safe Mode. Basically, it'll only work when the regular Windows 10 desktop environment loads (otherwise, the backlight never turns on, and the screen remains completely black), but this is probably a result of Acer never offering this panel in a Predator 17. I'm hoping for better luck with my new Alienware (as it was at least an option with the 17R5)!
Thanks! -
Mine is 17 R5 without tobi eye.
Everything including camera is working.
Look for refurbished panel, dont buy new from China.dmw_4814 likes this. -

P.S. - I bought my screen from a place in NJ called Bliss Computers. They sell tons of screens. They sent me a picture of the label on the back of the screen I ended-up buying, and it said AU Optronics B173QTN01.4. I realize it could still be a fake, but it's working perfectly, with sharp text and a stunning image of whatever I'm viewing!uzb321 likes this. -
Would anyone have a link to a 17.3" 4k glossy non-touch screen that would work on my Alienware 17 R4 please and thanks?
