Hi guys,
I just got my M17 R4 (10870h/3080/32gb) and I experience a weird problem. Once I first go it, I ran multiple Spy tests and was always getting around 11500 scores (as to be expected).
But yesterday, I tried again and got consistently around 9500/10000. I made a fresh reinstall of Windows and then, back to 12500. A few hours later, no change, tried restarting, back to 9500/10000.
I am sure that if I do a full reinstall again, I'll be back to my higher scores. Nothing changed, no new programs (such as Afterburner which I still haven't install on this second fresh Windows). Everything up to date.
Any ideas or people that had similar problems? I read that Command Center was progressively hogging the ressources more and more as time passes, but that issue seems to be outdated.

Wrong sub-forum, ill report the thread so it can be moved to the appropriate one
Have your tried tuning the laptop manually via Throttlestop and setting a voltage curve in MSI Afterburner? They are generally first steps to having the machine run closer to what is expected.Vasudev likes this. -
No I haven't since it was working fine for a while, twice (second time after a full factory refresh), so I assume that it wouldn't solve the issue (could be wrong).
Thanks for the reply regardless. -
Its all good, you just wont get quite the right crowd since this is for the older pre 2015 stuff.
I would give that a go, but also consider that windows likes to run updates in the background as well. Its easy to check, task manager will show heavier than warranted network activity and/or you can go directly to the updates to see if its attempting to download/install things. Im pretty sure Throttlestop works fine on the 10th gen items but dont do any BIOS updates as more and more systems have lost undervolting due to it. Also setting a voltage curve will take time but prevents the system from pumping more volts than it needs which is primary concern as that will drive temps higher and not allow for it ever really perform as it should.
Say if your GPU is rated for 115w but your system consistently pushes more volts than it needs then the result is a lower core clock speed which obviously lowers the overall performance of the part. It used to be all about pushing the max but as laptops became more and more mainstream, more limitations were put in place.
A mod will move the thread (I believe) when they have a moment, no worries mate.Vasudev likes this. -
