Ok so after being on here a while I've finally realised there is a cpu higher than the i7 6700HQ. Thing is i swear this wasn't an option when i bought my 15R2.

I have to ask have, It's a bit late at this stage to do anything about it but have I screwed myself? is the 6820 in STOCK mode any faster in the real world? Honestly i'm not into overclocking so that is of no concern.

You wont notice it under real world usage if you do not overlock. And it can be that it was out of stock so not shown while ordering.

As for not shown when out of stock, what treachery is this! Show me all the options, all the time! Bastards lol

Yeah that is one of the weird things with the Dell webshop. They all are assembled in the same factory and work with the same stock. Shipped from CHina to the customers his/her destination.

Still I can see different hardware options than for example in Germany. Offer the same stuff in all countries is not something Dell heard of.

pretty annoying. I mean I know I'm not screwed now which is good, but honestly why remove options arguably could end up with a bigger purchase depending on the customer.

I have no clue, I would love if they could streamline the whol eordering and support process more in general.

Return it, the 6700HQ (and Skylake in general) has a too low base clock (for Enthusiasts) and no possibility of overclocking, while the 6820HK base clock is still low but overclockable with values easily attaining 4Ghz.
Skylake overclocks pretty well when Intel allows you to do so (that is when your CPU multipliers and TDP aren't locked), unfortunately only the Core i7 6820HK and 6920HQ are unlocked 6820HQ and lower cannot be overclocked.

I have one of these in my built - trust me, not worth it. It runs so hot as well. You didnt see the option as they are usually low in stock.

You didnt miss out on anything.

I also have one of these (6820HK) in my machine, if yours is running hot then I suggest you re-paste as I'm running mine at 4.0GHz daily and never break 70c at full tilt. Even at 4.3GHz I maxed out at 84c when testing. I have re-pasted with Grizzly Conductonaut which has given me a 20c decrease in temps over the toothpaste that Dell use.

Of course if you have no intention of overclocking then the difference between the 6700HQ and 6820HK at stock speeds isn't noticeable.

However, if you like to tinker (like me!) then the 6820HK is definitely worth it, just be ready to re-paste the thing!

Ok cool! I have bought the Conductonaut and Grizzly thermal pads; I'm going to do a re-paste in the next couple of days. Obviously this voids the warranty?

You aren't missing anything. I had the r2 with 6700HQ 980m 4gb sold it and got r2 with 6820HK 980m 8gb VRAM. No discernible difference between the 2 except for the fact that my company paid for the new one...sweet. I don't overclock, happy with stock configs.
