Hi guys.
Im going to US in july, and i would like to know a little more about the new AREA 51-m laptop, from users that already have it.
I saw the pinned topic, but there are more than 700 pages and i'd like a straight answer. So here are:
1) How is the temperatures of Area 51-m ? Does it need repaste or the new cooling system + dell's factory paste works fine?
I ask this because i have a 15 R3 laptop, and i had to repaste it, more than once. I dont use LM since i move around the notebook, plus i live in Brazil, which temperatures in summer are around 35c and winter from 12c to 26c (ambient temp).
And as a expensive and top laptop, it should not have problems with temps...
2) Did you owners have any problems, such as factory defects (screen, keyboard, battery, etc)?
3) Finally: since i have a Samsung SSD 960 PRO 1tb, im planning to reset it and add to the new one. No problems right?
I guess this is it guys. My main concern is about the temps and repaste (i wouldnt like to do repaste in a brand new laptop and risk to lose the warrant). Thanks for the time and answers

Highly depends on which config you are looking for.
If you don't mind undervolting, the 9900K works fine at stock, temps with mid 80s to low 80s under high loads.
The 9700K will run a little cooler.
RTX 2080 temps are fine for most people.
Repaste will definitely depend as some users have good and some have bad factory paste jobs.
Only defect we can think of right now is the GPUs burning out. If you order by July I'm sure they'll have those issues sorted out hopefully.
Samsung SSD will work fine, I'm using 970 Evo Plus 1TB right now. -

U key popped out and would never go back into place no matter what I tried so I got a replacement. Other than that, it's the best machine you could get right now. -
Hybrid Battery boost is present.
I'd say not much of a difference will be noticed from 15r3 and A51M. Well, you can certainly buy 2667MHz 16GBx2(32GB) for 15 r3 and get a boost in RAM benching and overall system responsiveness. -
So no problems with temps right?
Because thats was the main issue i was worried. As i said, i wouldnt like to buy a new latop and have to respaste and lose warranty -

I liked because the inovation of upgrading hardware.
Also do you think, maybe, it is better to switch do a desktop instead? Or another brand of lap, such as MSI?
I saw the Alienware Area 51 desktop, and it seems nice, and i think it has water cooling system, so temps are low right (like 60c) ? -
Forget AW garbage, even desktop isn't upgradeable w/o BIOS update which only lasts like 1 yr. Do an assembled desktop and save costs. Closed loop cooling from EKWB should be somewhat easy, I think your dad will help you out in assembling custom Threadripper or Intel systems.lokoroxbr likes this. -

As of now the big limiting factor is it requires 2 PSU bricks to power normally. It throttles to 2060 max Q level on 1 PSU. -
