Hey guys, so basically I was wondering if its a good time to upgrade, or should i hold out for a bit longer? I bought the A15 R1 when it first came out. It's been good to me, not to many problems. Currently I am having a shut down issue, where when I turn off the computer, the fans starts blasting (so I tend to hold the power button until it shuts off..) Sometimes I get a "flash failed" and the computer restarts followed by booting up normal...

Anyways, It's still use-able for sure. However, in the future I do want to have a VR setup.. So back to the question, should I buy the current A15 R3 (I think?) or should I wait? I am thinking that I would max be willing to wait another year before buying a new laptop... So what do you think?

Also please don't tell me to just build a desktop, not going to happen. Laptop or bust.

    Thanks.

If you want a VR setup on the go, choose the new 15 r3 or 17 r4 OR buy AGA with GTX 10 series GPU in it, I bet you can do VR sice you've unlocked 4th gen cpu.

errr I had this problem with my alienware 17 r2. The only solution was to replace mobo.. 3 attempts of replacing mobo with 3 different problems and concluded they replaced my r2 to r3.. no problem since.. I suggest if you are in warranty use it until they will give a new laptop.. you might get the A15r3.. If not I suggest getting the 17r4.. hope this helps..

IMHO with the current generation's size and weight, there is absolutely no reason for the AW 15 r3.

The AW 17 r4 is only marginally larger and has better cooling at max specs. If you want smaller the AW 13 is far more compelling with OLED screen and the GTX 1060 has the power modern games on ultra @ 1080p

buy an Alienware amplifier and a desktop card, better than a new laptop.
you are using the 2.5" hdd ?? not matter if is as a second drive

I would wait for the next gen, the current generation CPU's are too much alike (Haswell, Skylake, Kaby Lake) in terms of performance and Nvidia pascal is a nice jump, the jump to Volta will be even bigge.

The next generation hardware will be a huge jump and comes within a year.

Maybe you ought to wait until Intel Cannonlake and its successors or possibly even Ryzen.
