Purchased my second 17 R3 today from Best Buy. 4K screens for $1649.00 just can't be beat.

I have owned laptops for 20 years. Numerous Alienwares. These new R3's are some of the nicest built ones I have ever seen. Internally as well. Everything is put together very well and with care. QC must be a real priority at Dell in the Alienware section this time.

I will be re-pasting this one as well. If possible I will post a video.

I'd like to see a video as well on a repaste. I bought some paste but don't know how to do it

I did a repaste on the 2013 18 inch Alienware. That was an experience. The newer models are a bit harder to get to, but they are made better.
Let me see what I can do about a video. Plan on doing a repasting very soon.

You can search my previous posts and see some pics of the 18 inch repasting.

0lok, you are speaking of the 2015 15 inch version? Same model correct?

Hmm recently bought an alienware 15 tempting to try this repasting when it arrives.

Always built desktops but never actually teared down a laptop before, little apprehensive but in most peoples case it seems to really help temperatures.

Yes, but this is no desktop, by any means. You can do it, but be very, very, very careful.

Yeah I don't know what I'll do yet I guess I'll just play it by ear when it arrives. See if there are any 15 R2 tear down videos.

I usually avoid taking laptops apart but in this case if it's going to mean 10-15c on the temps then it's probably worth doing.

Finished the 2nd re-paste of a 17 R3 a couple of hours ago. I am an old pro at this now, lol. I did not do a video, but I took step by step pictures and I will put together a post for it. Should help immensely. There are a few "gotchas" on these that I wouldn't want anyone to run into, so I will post those too.

A repaste guide for the Alienware 17 R3 would be quite the boon to the community - especially if it contains pictures or a video...

Ever since I read a post where someone almost did some irreparable damage
to the laptop's motherboard by removing the keyboard cable,
    I'm scared of diving in.

Can you include pics of how to remove each cable please?

For example, with the sata hard drive cable, I can't seem to yank it out,
and don't know which direction to pull.

If you are that inexperienced with it, than do not attempt to do a repaste. For people with experience it is easy. But if you are inexperienced, there are a lot of things where it can go wrong with this laptop.

The cables are jsut the typical ribbon cables by the way. So unlock them and then slide them out.

The keyboard cable is one of the tricky ones. I can definitely see that happening. Yes, I have pics showing all of this. I have a way of removing that piece without taking that cable out that I show.

Some of these cables are not just ribbons, they are very tedious.

Ok, trying to post pics here and linking them from Google photos, not showing up. What am I doing wrong?

Are you cut/pasting the URL of the image and entering it having clicked on the image icon ? I just did that below and it seems fine.

Its probably a permissions settings thing, good luck though. Perhaps a basic flickr account would work ?

I use postimage.org and it's pretty good as far as image hosting goes.
