I am in the market for a new laptop for away from home gaming. I reaaaaaaaaaally like the Alienware for it's graphics amplifier option. I have the opportunity to purchase a AWr1 w/graphics amp for $950. The unit is still under warranty until November. But that thread about the thermal throttling issue has me worried a bit. I mean, a lot. To the point where I've not even considered that purchase but it's basically BNIB. Pass or take my chances or just pony up for the 980m?

Truth be told I just want it for SWTOR and WoW. The 970m should be able to handle those games at ultra minus some shadows. Right?

wich processor ? if is the i7 4710hq is fine ... if is the 4720hq ... i dont recommend you ... too much throttling ... the gtx 970m is enought for everything in full hd and ultra ... and have really good OC capabilities

So it's just the 4720q that throttles? The one I was looking at was indeed the 4720.

I had 2 with the 4720HQ, both didnt thrtottle. Most people that did had throttling had the 980m versions.
