The temps on the M15 would be enough to not buy it. Other than that, I would really enjoy seing OLED screens on good multimedia notebooks. On gaming notebooks it's 2 slow, nopbody who has experiences 120hz+ screens would go to something like 60hz again.

It's actually not as bad as I initially thought. It does require tweaking through Throttle Stop, but the temps are easily kept in check.

If you have an M15,I'd like to see your result on aida64.

Again, if you read my comment you'd understand that I didn't say out of the box all is good. All is not good. And I saw the video you've posted.

Yes, I have an M15 and yes, my core temps hit 100 degrees. I posted a video on it briefly here:

BUT - with some simple tweaking in ThrottleStop (undervolting, etc) with stock paste the temps are MUCH better.

Civ 6 is extremely CPU intense in late game turns which is my mine was blowing up. The 8750H is a hot processor and requires you to protect it a little more than others when used in a laptop - especially a thin and light.

Anyway all I am saying is you do not simply need to dismiss the M15 due to thermals. And the build is fantastic.

You should listen to the youtube video, it's liquid metalled running at 3.3ghz and still 90+c. It's not stock either.

    Also...

    ...

Our definition of "easily kept in check" are so extremely different. I would consider 100C pretty far from in check.

I am really happy for you that you enjoy the notebook, but please don't say things like that. Your video literally shows a massive thermal problem. You're not aware of this, but if you keep running that notebook on those temps, it won't last long.

It hit 100C out of the box. After adjustments it's in the low 80s. Mine is not LM'd yet, but I will be doing it soon.

The video I posted was post undervolt but prior to setting the clocks. I am fully aware of the damage high temps can do. I was very close to returning this thing.

I've posted in the main thread, but I've gotten mine down to around 80c (+ or - 5ish degrees) when running XTU and turboing to 3.88Ghz all core. I'm pretty happy with that.

Nice to see even bigger sizes like 14 inch and 15.6 inch going into production. Would love to get a multimedia OLED laptop with 15.6 inch screen and thin bezels like XPS 15.

I will crap purple twinkies if OLED 15.6” gaming laptops arrive. I’ll do it live if they’re priced right :)

Wouldn't the process of crapping the twinkies crush them? All that would come out would be this horrific blend of purple and brown goo with a white cream filling

Totally agree that the M15 shouldn't be sold as is. Silly cash grab product.

But Seriously? I have used 60, 120, and 144 Hz. The difference is only slightly noticeable on screens 17" and below. The jump from 60 to 144 is much more noticeable on 21+ inch monitors.

The response timing of OLED (single digit micro seconds) vs slow IPS (30-50 micro seconds) is more noticeable.

Then the visual quality vs even best TN panels is extremely noticeable. I gave up TN 120Hz in a second for my OLED.

I think it's clear how subjective refresh rate is for everyone from the other thread.

I can see the difference between 60 and 80hz on my 18.4" laptop and it's very noticeable.

    On my AW17 R1 60 to 120hz was a huge improvement.

I do agree though the response times and quality of the OLED was very nice. It allowed me to not care about 120hz as much.

I'm probably the only person that turn there 120hz to 60hz because I absolutely can not handle variable frames. 100 down to 80 then back up etc... like slow motion to fast motion. Yuck. With a 1080 ti. Maybe when 5080 ti is around I'll do 120hz 4k oled ;)

    I had a Clevo P870DM3 with 1080 SLI when I had 120hz lol

I definitely recommend having a good GPU setup for high refresh rate. Going up and down in frame definitely isn't fun.

First of all, thank you for sharing that article.
Also read on there that samsung is negotiating with Dell (and other brands) about these panels.
Damn, I'm really getting excited, Hope I won't be disappointed.

Looking forward to see a 4K Oled 15 inch Alienware (not the m15, a regular one) with a 2080 max q, (or if existing/possible better, if thermals hold up, and don't require 2 psu).

Damn, that would be the best possible way for me to go back from desktop to Laptop.
    Fingers crossed.

I'm praying that Samsung makes a 17" OLED for the 51m

And I'd chime in that often what people are chasing with high refresh LCD's is the low pixel response rate that go hand in hand with high refresh. With OLED you "may" find that the pixel response is good enough that you won't mind 60. It's worth going to look at 60 OLED TV's just to see if the motion bothers you. Most can see it with scrolling movie credits, but have a look. OLED changes the game a bit. OLED at 120 will be perfection however. And I'm sure it will come eventually.

I play games on my 60hz 4k 17r4 and never had any problems with anything. I do not play on professional level to seek higher frequency panels.
