    Anyone know if the 2 pcie drives on the 2018 15 r3 are both 4x or is one x2 thanks

    One is x4 second x2, you are right, additional shorter nvme slot is also x2.
    GPU used only x8. i7 6700HQ have only 16 PCIe lines.
