    Hello members,
Kindly suggest a RAM for my Alienware 17 R3. According the spec sheet, Alienware 17 R3 supports PC4-17000 standard but I am curious to know weather we can use PC4-22400 standard in it?
Anyway, here is the list of RAMs, I have selected:
    G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 16GB (2 x 8G) 260-Pin DDR4 SO-DIMM DDR4 2800 (PC4 22400)
    G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 16GB (2 x 8G) 260-Pin DDR4 SO-DIMM DDR4 2666 (PC4 21300)
    G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 16GB (2 x 8G) 260-Pin DDR4 SO-DIMM DDR4 2133 (PC4 17000)
I know that PC4 17000 is compatible with Alienware 17 R3 but what about others?
    Advance thanks!!

Those 3 are suitable because as per Intel RAM testing on skylake, you can go for 2800MHz at 16GB but for 32GB you should stick with 2400MHz or 2667MHz(if 2400Mhz is out of stock).
Try these links http://compatibleproducts.intel.com...ype=Kits&productName=Intel® NUC Kit NUC6i7KYK
New testing results by CMT Labs to validate newer models http://www.cmtlabs.com/2012/memCert...el&outside=False&sMN=NUC6i7KYK&oSubmit=Search
A word of advice, don't go for Micron OEM memory but Crucial Consumer DRAM is okay to use and guaranteed to work. Google part number of the RAM chips you're buying.
GSkill uses DRAM chips from SK Hynix and Crucial/Micron(Both are same company) and Kingston also uses same chips as well. Apacer,Patriot and Team Elite use Samsung DRAM chip which has faster BW eventhough it has higher latency.
If you're thinking of future-proofing RAM capacity, go for 32GB with 2400MHz for best compatibility. Use BIOS 1.3.12 or above for best performance.

    My favorites are:

    https://www.kingston.com/en/hyperX/memory/impact

I will buy them in a year or 2 after 16 Gig is obsolete and the GDDR4 prices fall. The main reason I want to go with HyperX is that it supports both Jedec/PnP and XMP guaranteed to work @ 2666 no matter what my Bios supports or prefers.

Please double-check if above G.SKILL supports 2666 with both Jedec/PnP and XMP. Actually for Alienware, Jedec/PnP is supported by Bios for sure. Some memories can support 2666 with XMP, but not Jedec/PnP.

I have read of a guy with max. 2-3 years old (since launched) Alienware who bought 2666 'well known' memory, but the memory only supported 2666 with XMP and only 2400 with Jedec/PnP. He put it in and he got max. 2400. Then he bought Kingsdon HyperX and he ran at 2666 out of box.

Also check the timings on both G.SKILL and HyperX, lower is better.

Don't get the 2667MHz it has worse latency according to me. I think they used Crucial's DRAM chip get loose timings. You might as well get 2400MHz with low latency and high speed.
Everybody making RAM chip should adhere to JEDEC standard otherwise they'll end up in trash can.
Those kind of clocks AW rejects it on sight but will work on Clevo.
I feel HyperX 2667MHz might choose 15/16 instead of that default value to keep AW BIOS happy. You see in DDR4 speed is everything the more clocks are the lower latency will be.
Out of the box, Samsung OEM RAM with CAS 17 will outperform HyperX because it has huge BW on r/w.
Wait until 6 months since most DRAM makers are ditching 2133,2400MHz RAM and making only higher one 2667 which can downclock as required based on chipset. So more money is saved!
Look at Kabylake version of NUC for memory compatibility for better results. Dell uses only OEM memory from Micron and SK Hynix.

Its thanks to whitelist set by AW BIOS engineers. The memory is allowed to work on 15 r3 and above. You can go upto 3400MHz at stock clocks from Corsair,GSkill,HyperX w/o any issues. @Papusan uses skylake board with OC'ed RAM frequency using Samsung DRAM. Since AW doesn't enable/show ram timings in BIOS you need to get fast clocked RAM from Samsung/Crucial/SK Hynix for best results. Check the DRAM chip.

Please can you post a picture at what timings the memory runs?
