Got my AW15 from the outlet today. Not a huge gamer and this system (scratch and dent) came up at a very good price.

Only thing so far is the R9 M295X supposedly inside is reported in device manager as an R9 M390X. Now, I vaguely remember reading that this is standard and comes about because the M295X is simply an overclocked M390X. Can't find that on the search though, so can anyone confirm?

Octicpes is correct. Furthermore the Alienware AMD driver has a note saying to change ID of m295x to m390.
However, can you upload a vBIOS of the m295x / m390x? There may be something interesting with this rebadging. Or not. If you need help with this, just ask away.

    Thanks, that's what I'd thought.

Yes, I can upload the vBios if you tell me how to extract it! :)

The only method I know of is using GPU-Z. Download/install GPU-Z, open it, and next to the BIOS version, there should be a gray box with an arrow popping out. Click it, and select save to file. Put a link to the file from some file sharing or cloud storage (like Google Drive) as this forum won't accept the file format the BIOS file comes in.
However, you may have to disable the AMD GPU through device manager. I would do this first before trying to save the file.
