Only getting 4K 30hz on my Dell P2715Q using the hdmi out which is horribly painful. Can’t believe this laptop doesn’t have a Mini DisplayPort. So never used another cable before, should I use a usb type c to DisplayPort to get 4K 60hz? http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/621167/j5create-USB-Type-C-to-4K/?cm_cat=1000648909 Making store run would like to know if this will work ASAP .

That cable works FYI smooth 60hz..
Update:
UGhh why Alienware why?? Found out using the USB Type c /thunderbolt ONLY uses the intergraded Intel graphic processor So the gtx 980m only outputs through the HDMI, which I believe is 2.0 which supports 4k 60hz. My monitor has 1.4HDMI only supports 4k 60hz through the miniDP or DisplayPort.
So is there a HDMI 2.0 cable to DisplayPort or MiniDP ?Last edited: Sep 21, 2017Vasudev likes this. -
Hello Vince,
Thank you for contacting Accell.
Unfortunately we do not offer any products to connect the HDMI output from your computer to the DisplayPort or Mini DisplayPort input of your monitor. The Accell adapter that you linked will not work for your application.
For your reference, we found a support article that you may find useful.

I don't mean to add to the OP's trouble, but I can offer my suggestion based on my setup. I wanted a gaming laptop, but wanted to be able to do enough with it so it was my primary system. Since the mobile graphics weren't going to let me run a Oculus or Vive (afaik) if and when I could justify one, I knew I wanted to be able to run a desktop graphics card and improve my performance without HAVING to sell and upgrade my laptop every time a new standard came out. So I got the Alienware Graphics Amp straight off Ebay, new in the box, for about $140. Then I did my research to make sure what 1080 GTX card would fit in the enclosure, and worked well for people. I ended up buying an ASUS Geforce 1080 GTX off Amazon for $500, brand new and sealed in the box. (After ordering an Amazon Warehouse Deals video card that was SUPPOSED to be a 1080 GTX, but someone put a 980 in the box and returned it. Be careful!!!)
Anyway, with the AGA, and 1080 GTX, I bought a new DisplayPort cable that I made sure supported all the latest monitors and video cards. Connected my 1080 GTX to a slightly older Samsung 4K display that only supports HDMI 1.4. So instead, I use DisplayPort to DisplayPort and I'm running the display at 60 Hz just fine. Looks and works great.
You probably don't wanna spend that kinda money, and I wouldn't blame you. But there are options that will make it work the way you want. Just FYI. Sorry you are having so much trouble.Vasudev likes this.
