Ok, so one thing I started noticing is how hard it is to type on my AW17R3 when I have it sitting on a regular desk surface...

I mean there is ZERO slope to the front edge, and it ends up killing my forearms just back from my wrists.

My previous gaming laptop was an Asus G73jh, and the front of the area by the trackpad was sloped, with it almost being knife-edged on the front lip, so it definitely had a downward slope to it.

I have used the AW17R3 on my lap and it is fine there as your elbows are up and forearms are elevated compared to the wrists. (for reference I am 6'1" tall, not short by any means, and the desks I am using are all normal height desks used for writing/paperwork/etc, not the lower "student-level" desks you sometimes find in classrooms or hospitals and such, as the "student-level" desks don't pose anywhere near the issue I have with the full height ones)

I have an older Zalman laptop pedestal that I used for cooling the old laptop that I haven't used in years and I will say that using it along with sitting further back does help a bit, but is that the big key to using this laptop comfortably, to use a laptop stand?

If so I will have to find a wider version that will allow the AW17R3 to sit better on it. This one is just too narrow.

Sounds like your desk is too high for your setup. Your arms should run straight parallel with your desk for ideal ergonomics.

Well, the desk is a built-in in my loft upstairs, so there is no way to change it.

The desk I have with my desktop computer downstairs in the computer center sits lower, but again, it has my desktop computer, so I might as well use that one there. That one has 3 28" 1920x1200 monitors on it, but still has a pair of GTX480s in SLI. So, in general, it is a wattage pig compared to the AW17R3.

Honestly, once video cards become reasonably priced again (or should I say *IF* they ever do), I figured I would pickup a GTX1080 and replace the GTX480s as well as add a 43" 4k UHD display to my desktop... I am already planning on changing out the i7-950 I have for a X5690 xeon and already have 24GB ram on that machine with a x58 chipset along with SSDs and HDDs so I see no need to do anything except to change the video cards out for a newer one...

I needed the AW17R3 for some work I do and since I lost my other 17" laptop earlier in the year I figured I would get something I could game with when I am not at home. I also got a killer deal on the AGA, so I figured I might just see how much I could use the laptop instead of the desktop...

But, it looks like I almost need to use an external monitor and keyboard/mouse with the laptop to be viable where I have it. I will say the stand I have it on makes it quite a bit better, so I might just pickup a more adjustable and wider one and go that route... If I can make it work out well, I might just end up replacing the desktop with the laptop and putting a GTX1080 or whatever comes out after that on the laptop and using it on my desktop in the computer center instead. I wonder if a single GTX1080 can support 3 monitors at 1920x1200 in a spanned desktop and a single 4k UHD display by itself all at once???

    I would need 3 spanned for a common desktop (6840 x 1200 res with bezel compensation) and a single 3840 x 2160 4k UHD for gaming/4k video playback...

I think the card maxes out at 7680x4320 @60Hz
