I have just ordered AW17R3 yesterday w/o SSD. The plan is to save money by buying m.2 SSD off market.
Samsung 950 and SM951 are a bit expensive for a price-sensitive person so I think about Samsung 850 evo or Crucial MX200. My question is whether 850 or MX200 will fit in the "key" edge connector? Here it says AW17R3 has M key and 850 or MX200 has M+B key. My guessing is M+B is inclusive of both types.
By the way, what the relationship between driver's interface, M.2 and SATA or PCIe. It looks like my laptop is going to come with PCIe connector.
i know 950 utilize PCIe3.0X4 fully. Since 850 EVO's product description says it is standard SATA drive interface, can it still be connected to PCIe?
Edit: my research until now has shown that SATA or PCIe seems to be only interface within the SSD, as for connector, it really just either B, M or B+M key.
As for system, my plan is to follow this guide: https://www.reddit.com/r/Alienware/comments/39k27e/how_to_migrate_os_from_stock_hdd_to_m2_ssd/
Can I keep OS on HDD as another backup boot other than the USB drive created with Alienrespawn?
Anyone has recommendation of your choice of sdd and the OS set up (either fresh install or migration), please share with me. Thank you!
