After a quick forum search, I haven't found anyone with the exact same problem, so here goes.
The spacebar on my new laptop doesn't seem to be working correctly.
It's neither squeeky, nor sticky, it seems to be moving just fine, however the spacebar needs a higher than reasonable amount of pressure in order to register when hitting it on the sides (it seems to work just fine when hitting it in the middle). The issue can be temporary removed/reduced by putting a lot of pressure on the spacebar for a little while, however after leaving it alone for a while it stops working properly again.
Anyone got any idea what's causing this and/or how to fix it ?

If it's brand new, put in a call to Dell's support line and have them send you a replacement unit.

Nearly a full year later and I can confirm that I'm having the same problem with my spacebar as well. Applying pressure in the middle seems to fix the problem but then my hand placement is unnatural and completely off. I just ordered a replacement unit and hopefully it will fix this silly issue.
I think it's due to small clasps that hold the metal bar which seem not to be holding it properly causing the entire key to unevenly shift and apply barely to no pressure in the middle.
