I received my new 17 R2 with the 4980 processor, and 980m gpu. I've installed the A02 bios but am still waiting on a 240W psu. I've done all the obvious things (force using the gpu via NVidia control panel, reinstall drivers, etc...). I'm running on mostly Ultra settings with some High settings mixed in. I seem to be stuck in the 40ish frames per second range (my refresh rate is set to 60, and my battery saver is turned of, also power mode is high performance).

What kind of fps are you seeing in World of Warcraft? Any ideas on why my fps are as low as they are?

It could be the online gameplay. Have you tried any other games?
I haven't played that game on the new AW 17, therefore I'm not sure if that's the right FPS average for the game.

I need to hit up steam and find something to try. Only things I have loaded currently aside from WoW are Diablo 3 and Heroes of the Storm lol. I want to try something outside of blizzard just in case it's an issue with optimization on their games.

I've got the 970. Near maximum for everything. Getting 111-120 fpS in wow. Pretty much everywhere I go.

Yeah something is definitely not right - even an i5 Alienware 13 will beat that on average. Is your power profile and Nvidia profile both set for maximum power? I've had a few cases where the default "balanced" seemed to cause lower performance depending on circumstance.

Have you disabled bandwidth control in the Killer Control Panel?
    Disabled V-Sync?

I think that Killer Control Panel should be disabled completely to avoid BSOD from what I'm reading on this forum.

So, Starrk, I've been helping you on the other thread, so let me post something real quick here...I just discovered, which may be common knowledge, but I didn't know.
I logged in this morning, thinking everything was normal, and my rig capped me at 30 FPS, I got apprehensive thinking a new driver in the system I downloaded might have slowed me. Then, I noticed after playing with everything on the system for a bit....the little alien power button head was red.....I have it set for green when the power source is plugged in. I thought it was plugged in. The minute I plugged in my power cord, my FPS shot back up to normal. So guys, is this normal for an Alienware computer....get throttled when on battery?

Using the default power profile, yes. You can take it off Balanced and go with High Performance but it will drain the battery in gaming really fast (like 30-40 minutes).

Brash gave me some tips to try...everything was done aside from checking Killer. I disabled it, and I got up to around 60 fps. Still no where near that 110-120 range.

Power and nvidia are set to high performance, and its set to use the 980m with WoW. Vsync is disabled and the laptop is plugged in. Brash did say he gets jumps up to 100+, but I have not yet.

What are your setting exactly @Mustbetouch ? It my benefit both myself and Brash as were running the exact same settings now.

Anyone have any other ideas? @Docsteel that was my thought too...this rig should blow WoW out of the water. Instead, its OK at best.

I did download the A02 bios, but don't have my 240 watt PSU in yet. That might be part of the problem, but I can't imagine it doubling my fps.

As soon as I get a chance tonight I'll give you a full rundown of settings. If it helps now though, I will tell you it matches nvidia optimized settings exactly.
