Hey guys so the last week my alienware laptop is giving me issues with performance.

I have an Alienware 13 laptop since February 2014 now I'm pretty sure the battery is shot since when its unplugged it dies in like 5-10 minutes less from full charge

now my problem is that when plugged in to the charger the laptop is at 93% charge and is stating "plugged in, not charging"

my issue with this is it seems to be affecting my performance as with any game I'm getting 20-30 fps from what was 100-160 fps a few days ago

also the whole computer is just generally slower

its not a virus or lack of memory as IM only consuming roughly 35% of cpu during heavy usage and half of the RAM and have done a full scan and CCleaner and Defragged.

    so I'm totally lost... XD

    Windows 7 64 bit,
    8GB DDR3

When the battery is at the mid 90s (maybe low, but I'm doubtful), the charger does not charger the battery to not shorten the battery's lifespan (more charge cycles is not a good thing).
Can the battery be charge once you get to a lower percentage or when the computer is off?
I suppose you made everything be set on high performance if you haven't already.

So if i unplug the charger it goes to around 80% in a few minutes then it charges till its reaches 90ish and just stops charging. Can the battery/charger really be causeing performance issues on this level?

Do you have desktop charge mode enabled (right click on the battery icon)?

Desktop charge mode has a maximum charge cap (as in, what percent you cap at).
I would also switch from express to standard charge in the BIOS (under advanced) to prevent further battery damage.

Disable desktop charge mode if it is enabled.
If you are experiencing the problem with desktop charge mode disabled, then you may need a battery replacement.

My machine has notified me multiple times the battery needs replaced which I understand. What i dont udnerstand is how that is affecting my system performance so badly? I have the charger plugged in so the system is being powered. My main concern is how this ties in with my system performing a lot slower and evengames themselves load at onyl 20-30 fps when the would run ay 100+fps on max settings a 2 days ago?

You could run a diagnostics or a bench to see if the laptop is even functioning properly.
Still, a bad battery can have a negative impact on system performance. And one way to test is by disconnecting the battery and running the laptop as if it were a desktop with a screen attached.

If i run a diagnostic and post the response here will anyone be able to decode it? because im decent with a PC but not that good...

Also the alienware laptops seem pretty closed off in terms of build. Is there any way to remove the battery from the alienware 13? because im not seeing any screws etc? cause i would like to take the back off and clean down the hardware and remove dust as it hasn't been opened since day one.

There should be a cable to plugs into a port on the motherboard. Disconnecting that should unplug the battery. However, the whole "no battery plugged in idea" I mentioned should not be done until after you've done a diagnostic (think of it as a last resort).
Diagnostics are becoming easier to read, but posting here would be a good idea. Make sure that everything is set to high performance (battery plan and Nvidia control panel).
If anything (should have mentioned this earlier), you could do a system restore to a time before this all started.

So i got home last night and the laptop was not on desktop charge mode, I did a system restore and the device is still not charging in fact im a bit spooked cause if i disconnect the charger the battery level falls rapidly and when i plug in the charger is shows its charging for a bout a minute then it stops so now if i unplug my laptop and it runs to zero what will happen? there is a blue LED around the charger lead which is showing that it is giving power, but its not charging. So definitely either an issue with the charging port on my laptop or the charger itself? my main concern again is how all this is affecting my performance on my laptop because now its gone from being a gaming pc to a cheap desktop in terms of performance...
