Wait, so if I'm seeing this correctly the other version has much thicker heatpipes right? That's weird, weird and interesting.

One thing on, a really much lower temperature. - 10.

And if one observes carefully, even the base is not of the same model. Even strange for a computer with similar specifications.

Considering that a member of this forum advocated buying a 1080 unit, putting the 1080 heatsink/fans into a 1070 unit, and then sending the 1080 unit back with the 1070 parts I'm not too surprised that there might be some mixed parts if these were refurbished.

This is obviously a form of fraud and illegal and Alienware is investigating the matter so I would contact Alienware directly and also let AWUmar know on the Discord if these were refurbished units since the cause might be return fraud.

In that case I would still contact Alienware since they obviously sent you the wrong parts.

Personally, I do not see why I would contact Alienware, because I have a computer with a good temperature. I paid for a 1070 and I receive the fan of a 1080 ...
Maybe they're the ones who cheat me by sending me a refurbished computer, making me believe it's a new computer.

Oh, I misunderstood. I thought you got a 1080 unit with a 1070 heatsink since your initial post didn't specify what GPU you had.

Have to disagree. Refurbished means they check the unit and make sure the parts are in order. If they "certified refurbished" it by simply turning it on, seeing it boot, then turning it off and not even noticing a visibly different heatsink, then... the fault lies with Dell.

The amount of oversight a unit gets depends on why it was returned, if it was never turned on and set-up it might be labeled 'new in box' since all the parts should be good (unless someone swapped some out). Regardless, the act described is illegal regardless of if Dell/Alienware detected the swap or not.

Plus, as people here can attest, not all refurbished units are equal.

Not saying whether it's illegal or not, really. Just that if you *get* a refurbished unit and stuff is wrong or missing, that is on Dell. Period.

No idea if I am loud to share this or not but whatever...

It is intentional but I don't know how widespread it is rolling out. During one of our calls with Alienware a few months ago it was confirmed that the heatsinks would be getting bumped up to their bigger brothers level. So if you order a 1060 you get a 1070 heatsink, and a 1070 will get a 1080 etc. It was part of the attempt to get better more manageable temps from these systems and stemmed partly from the huge temp disaster at the beginning and community feedback. While I don't know why they both didn't come from it, it more then likely wasn't a mistake.

If this is indeed a start to the roll out of 1080 heatsinks on the 1070's then it took them awhile but it's a win win for consumers.

Will 1080 and 1080M(MAX Q) models get vapor chambered heatsinks as Clevo p870dm3?

Not sure, I don't remember anything specifically about the 1080 getting any further heatsink upgrades, and this was well before Max Q was even announced. I kind of forgot about it as this was months ago this topic came up. It came right from one of the lead engineers when we were told so I am a little surprised we didn't see this change earlier unless it's been happening for awhile and no one noticed.
