    Hi
Only realised now that overclocking is not enabled by default. I set it in bios to lv 1. What speed does that equate to? What settings do I need to change to get the advertised up to 4.1ghz?

    Thanks

set it to lvl 3 and it peaks at 4.1ghz. seems stable.

question - leaving it at this setting. Does it use more battery ( assume yes but assume around 10% or so) and does it mean i will bake my CPU quicker (assuming a hardware cycle of around 5-6 years - how often i replace a computer!)

tell a lie. The screen flashed black and now the speed is capped at 1.3ghz. Pushed it back to lvl 2, same thing. Now will try lvl 1 and then turn it off if nothing happens. Seems quite poor/volatile for a laptop that is sold as capable of overclocking to 4.1ghz

Right. I was on battery. And minimum processor state was set at 5% in power settings hence the 1.3ghz. But the flashing black screen must have been related to overclock lvl 3. Currently at lvl 1 again.

Sucks the 13 R3 7700 doesn't have this feature in the bios to overclock it.
Unless I am missing something. I don't see anything to change power levels on the advance bios screen.

The overclock levels in the bios are not very useful. They have no guarantee of stability. The best way to overclock is to use a 3rd party program like Intel XTU or Throttlestop. Overclock in small increments and monitor temps carefully.

I installed XTU and the temperature is odd. Not sure how it can measure up to 84 degrees then a second later measure half that??! Image attached Capture.PNG

The 7700hq has a locked multiplier, so that'll be why.
