Hi Guys,
I am looking forward to make a purchase for Alienware 17 R2 with original price $1,999. Before placing a final order, I am just wondering how much off would be considered as a good discount?
I saw in this forum another guy were able to knock down a discount with $400 off (from $2,199 to $1,999) Currently I am able to get discount for about $260 (just purely off the original price. The additional Dell gift card or any credit card cash back is not included) Is it a good discount to place the order?
If not, can you guys give me some experiences or strategy for how to place an order with good discount from Dell sales person?
Please, share your buying experience with us so that we can have a better deal and save some cash $$$
Thanks

Good idea, but they just came out. I doubt we will see any good deals for a while.
I'm waiting for the Mystery Coupons. -
say you're a student and that you're a few $$$ short!

Yeah, I managed to get 2% + $150 coupon. I also will get that 5% cash back on a gift card, and use it for a case, probably.
You'll get the best deal talking to somebody directly on the phone. If that isn't an option, then Dell chat is next best.
Just keep trying til you find somebody willing/capable of giving you a little bit extra.
For example, I wasn't able to combine the 2% discount with the $150 coupon myself, as the system wouldn't let me. But the sales rep managed to do it.
Also, you'll typically get better deals with more expensive systems. There's no way they'll give you a $500 discount on a basic $1500 machine, but if you're spending $3500, you may be able to get such a large discount. -

It's possible to get some decent discounts from them. I got a decent one last night. I'm not sure if things are different here in Canada than the USA, but the rep on the phone told me they don't work on comimssion, only those with US alienware sales do. If any Canadians want some info on the deal I got give me a PM, I promised I wouldn't disclose what I got to the public.

I am from another university and just got a 17% discount by using Hackingtosh's method. Unfortunately it's not stackable so possibly I am not going to use it.

The coupon deal ended today. They can no longer be acquired.
You needed an IU email address for the coupon code. Yes, it's tied to an email. -
Well, while I didn't snag one of those 20% coupons. I did get a decent deal (as far as Canada is concerned, anyway).
The base AW 17 goes for $1700 CAD. I managed to get it down to $1,412 CAD + tax, including a free neoprene sleeve. And I'll get the 5% cash back (around $75), which I'll probably use to get the vindicator suitcase.
$1,412 CAD is roughly $1,133 USD at today's exchange rate.
Not too shabby, I think. -

I've been trying both online chat and direct phone for the past 3 days. Base model with 970M (which is enough for my casual 1080p gaming needs) but I wanted the touchscreen glossy upgrade and didn't really get much in terms of deals with over the phone. I'll do the RAM and SSD down the year IF I feel the need for it. After the intial gaming videos I've seen on the Asus ROG with 970M, I think I'll be more than content with the card.
$1499+$150 touchscreen upgrade = $1650+taxes. $1550 was the final price this morning. Cancelled it and tried another chat session in the evening and got it down to $1436 plus taxes WITH 5% Dell giftcard thrown in (approx $72, which I'll probably use to buy a 27" IPS monitor later). I sealed the deal. 2nd day air as well. Tried to get them to throw in the OS recovery on disk but they were firm on the final price so I didn't push much.
Though over the phone, they were offering a 7" Dell tablet for free but no price discounts and guy said they are trying to limit discounts on these newer 9XX based laptops since they seem to be selling quite nicely.
There might be better deals later on but I have no regrets. I only buy/upgrade laptops every 2-3 years so this should last me with a while (along with SSD+16GB memory later down the year).
Good luck to yall. -
I ordered AW 17 with touch screen and OS recovery USB. Got it for $1500 pre tax. A savings of around $170 from online price. sales rep Victor was very helpful.

Ordered the 17 R2 with 4980, 980M, and 8GB.
Normal Price: $2349+ Tax
After 15% Mystery Coupon: $1997 + Tax -
Just got mine the last week (Did an unboxing on it if anyone is interested: )
Also really quick there is a 10% discount code for any Dell computer here (expires 5/1/2015): 1C6GD3PKXJWDWB
I paid $1,449 next day shipped for the base model through Amazon (so closer to $1,399 not shipped)... Alienware 17 R2 - i7 3.5GHz - 8 GB RAM - 1TB HDD - GTX 970m. I also upgraded to 16GB of RAM and a full SSD 500GB HD for only $200 after (because I sold the old drive and RAM)... so really I got a Alienware 17 R2 - i7 3.5GHz - 16 GB RAM - 500GB SSD - GTX 970m for only $1,649 next day shipped (would have been over $2,000 if you buy it that way).
Not too bad. Amazon does not collect tax from my state so it was close the same price as Dell with the discounts as they charge tax and I did not need to wait the 2 weeks for them to "make it"... so that was worth a small amount to me as I needed one asap due to my last laptop dieing. I had a Lenovo y510p with dual GTX 750m's in SLI... it went up in smoke quite literally. I think it was just the internal power adapter though. It was a month out of warranty but I got them to cover the repair but it was going to take too long.
I am so glad I got this laptop! It is so much more consistent then the SLI 750m's. I did not think the 980m was worth the extra $350 for the performance difference. In 3 years I will just upgrade if i am having issues with FPS at all because from what I can tell to upgrade the gpu (if you still could) would cost well over half of the base model anyways.
Anyways wanted to say how much I love my new Alienware 17 R2 and also wanted to share that discount code
EDIT:
Forgot to mention I did have an issue when I got it. The speakers in the front did not work and the woofer would only work on low sound.
Dell sent someone to my house with a new part in UNDER 24 hours and had it fixed. I watched the repair and the issue was a crimped wire from when it was being put together the wire popped up and got caught between two pieces of plastic... and easy mistake. I was very happy with the service... actually I was amazed. People always ask why buy something like this instead of building your own... this is part the reason.Last edited: Mar 23, 2015 -

I didn't haggle or anything, no coupons. I regret it, looks like I could have gotten the 4980 for almost just 200-300 bucks more. Oh well. It's an experience for next time -
How long ago did you get yours? If you just got it you can send it back if you are going to get a different one they will let you I am pretty sure (from what the rep told me).
BTW, not sure the CPU is really that important. When I game I do not even use close half of mine according to my CPU monitoring system. -
I got it about 2 weeks ago. I'm happy with what I got though so I won't return it. The most important thing to me was getting the 980M which I got.

I did not get the 980m myself, I know it is quite a difference (like 10 fps more roughly, for example on Evolve on Ultra settings... the 980m gets 61 and the 970m gets 51) but for me that was not worth another $350... if it was only $150 more I would have.

Newegg is going to offer a Shell Shocker discount on the 17 R2 later today. No idea how steep it'll be, but it's a discount nonetheless.
-
How could I get the best discount for it which base price is 1499?

Link I gave my rep to work with me on - again, your results may very - my company deals solely with Dell and gets a nice enough incentive to let me keep the 32" promo and price match this. 2 years coverage for accidental came down to 129 (3 year 199). If you dont want the TV order from microsoft directly, as I believe they can ship day of order since its a premade signature edition. Sorry for delays.
