As was suggested by a poster in the AW15 owners thread, this should be the place to post your experiences with ordering your new Alienware laptop. Let's try to keep the conversation geared towards ordering/shipping and related types of updates. This should be a place where we are all agonize, er, enjoy the wait until with each other until our new Aliens arrive.

Mods if you think this is a worthy topic, please sticky this post. Thanks!

Initially ordered 01/21/15, but cancelled and reordered when the mystery coupon was posted here. Only a few days difference in the EDD so it wasn't a huge deal. Still waiting ages it feels.

^ Maybe Santa is ordering a AW17 himself and is looking for prod dates and how long it takes on average for Dell to process orders and ship out?? Just a long thought..........

I would say, nothing. I'm guessing the reason others posted here, as well as me, is to get an idea of how quickly some configurations are being sent out and how long others are being lagged behind. This is nothing more than a fluff thread. If it keeps all of these posts out of multiple threads, then there is your purpose.

That's right...2 months and 5 orders later, I should receive my AW 17. I thought my latest order was escalated, however with an ETA of 3/6/15 I'm failing to see any urgency. Oh yeah, then I'll finally get to call tech services to request the 240 watt PSU and M.2 SSD screws that should ship with the laptop to begin with. Ultra excited to get the laptop and wait another week to receive the missing pieces lol.

Well unfortunately my order is now cancelled. There are just too many gen 1 bugs with the AW15 and the GA to warrant continuing my purchase at this point. Hopefully the gen 2 version will work out some of the issues. GL to all those who are still waiting.

Found the AW15 model I was interest in on NewEgg (i7, 1080p IPS, 16 GB, 970m, and 128 SSD w 1 TB slow drive) for 1699 tax free unlike Dell. Ordered last night from NewEgg (2/12), shipped today (2/13) via next day for $40, scheduled delivery Monday (2/16). Looking to find a GA later this year or when next gen cards come out to accommodate VR at home, and to use as a dock with my GTX 670 until I need to upgrade.

That's quite expensive. For that spec, you could have gotten it for well below 1400 with the coupons and rep discounts after tax.

I guess if haggling isn't your forte, it's a good deal considering the original price.

I don't qualify for EPP, I could have got 3% off through my work, my sales tax rate is 9%. I have no doubt I could have waited for better coupons, used chat to maybe get EPP too, but even a 20% overall discount from list of $1750 to $1400, still only saves me $150 after taxes as compared to Newegg, and it takes time for relevant coupons to appear, and then to build it, as compared to NewEgg's instant gratification.

Everybody qualifies for EPP. They just call it a membership - but everyone can use it to purchase a computer. The 10% coupon for dell is usually around all the time. 5-10% discount from the sales rep on the phone and 5-15% discount from the returns rep once you receive the device. When I said well below 1400 dollars, that was with the minimum discounts I would get. 1400 with the tax. If you haggle well, you could get 35-40% off. I can see myself getting what you paid for about 1100 dollars with the tax.

I'm by no means bragging. This does happen - read in the forums and you'll see what I mean. People get 2500+ dollars computer for below 1700 in some instances. I personally got my AW15 originally priced at 1470 dollars (with tax) for 942 dollars (with tax). My tax rate is 8.875% as well. That's almost 40 percent discount.

Nice work. I read in the other discount thread that someone tried over a span of two weeks to get better over the phone than a 22% discount and couldn't do better.

When you say 5-15% from the returns rep, is that you calling and threatening to return the device unless you get more money back? Because if so, damn, that's cold. These people got to eat too!

I don't threaten; I make them aware of certain issues of the computer and they just quote the discounts. And well, if this doesn't work, I tell them the concerns of returning it and they're bound to give more discounts. There is a difference :D

And, by the way, my price was not including the dell advantage rewards (5% of subtotal) and the credit card cash back (6% for me). They bring down the price to about 850.

This is true. When I called yesterday to cancel my order, they immediately offered to give me up to $200 off the price if I kept the order. It was tempting, but I still think there are too many gen 1 issues to deal with. But it would have brought my total for the fully loaded 980M/4K model down to about $1800.

So in the end I went for the AW 13. Purely because the AW15 would be overkill for my needs and also to heavy.

    I ordered the AW13 FHD + i7 Processor + 256SSD. Estimated delivery date: 5 march

Holy cow man Dell dropped the bomb big time with this. They better give you a HUGE discount or an extra free year of warranty or something. That is ABSOLUTELY unacceptable and to have the nerve to tell you that you already have your laptop.

    Wow

Yea thats pretty bad making you wit so long, they have to make it up to you, you will be without computer for 1 month more than you expected. I would demand strongly an upgrade or for sure more warranty. And def. keeping both tablets.

says right on the product page, if you choose Saturday delivery, you'll get it tomorrow. said the same yesterday also for a Friday delivery. the sales rep i had on the phone hooked me up with this shipping for free, so it's worth calling them right before you check out. i just mentioned that dell usually gives a bit of a discount.

Just ordered the AW15 today with the specs above from Dell at a final cost of $1800 USD, including CA sales tax. Did I get a good deal? The cost does not include the 5% rewards or any "retention" refunds.

I haven't received my laptop yet but the link to track the order from the confirmation email didn't work. You can try using the link below to see the status if that is what you are asking, it worked for me.

My order date was 2/12/2015 and I received a notification its gone on to Fed Ex last night at 3 in the morning.

Some other details, looking at the tracking info was that Fed Ex received this actually on the 17th or 18th depending on how the info is viewed. Seems that there is information delay going on, I think I read somewhere that was kind of normal in the scheme of things. On another note, I have talked to Dell a few times in regards to the 240 Power Supply Issue, and I think they will be sending me a power supply, but I have to call them when my order officially arrives - figured I would throw that out there since I have the 15 coming and there has been a lot said in this area all over the place, and specifically that the 15 isn't eligible. I told them if this can't be resolved I will be sending it back immediately. There are other machines I can order and not spend an additional amount of my own money to have a proper power supply.

I know this has been discussed in the other threads but I still can't seem to find a clear answer on this issue. Is the 240W PSU absolutely necessary for full performance on the AW15 + 980M? The 180W PSU is supposedly sufficient with the new BIOS and there may be more improvements in the near future.

I haven't seen the PSUs in-person but I assume the 240W unit is physically bigger than the 180W unit. The 180W one is big enough already and I really don't want a bigger one if the laptop can already achieve maximum performance.

I don't know for certain, but what I do know is that those with it have the results they want/expected and that is enough for me. There are some heavy hitters on here who have done the volt testing and can confirm that the new Alienwares do draw more power than the power supply provides and any correction due to the bios is likely just a battery tap, which isn't what I wanted or was expecting when choosing to go after an Alienware 15.
