So after a cold boot my laptop keyboard lights come on but the screen stays blank, no post to bios, doesnt even load windows, if i power off though or reset it starts up normally, this only happens on a cold boot, any suggestions? Ill also add that all my drivers and bios is fully updated and ive tried an external monitor and nothing show up while the issue is happening

I had something like this happen to me a few years ago, It ended up being a BGA GPU that was separating from the board. It would work after reset as enough heat had been generated to reconnect the contact.
Easy way to check is get a hair dryer and lightly warm the underside of the MB where the GPU and CPU are then try to boot. if the problem is magically gone then you have a solder issue and it will only get worse with time. Makes sure tho when you try this the computer is cold. (Other words powered off for a few hours) -
So ive found that it actually does start up on cold boot it just takes upward of a minute or so which is pretty long for an ssd

Was updating my Nvidia drivers and seen this in the change log today, Might have something to do with your PC. =) No idea if they are talking pre Win boot or not but figured I would post it anywho.

System may hang at a black screen upon cold boot up. [1913854] -
Thanks for the advice but its still under warranty so i dont really wanna risk messing it up, but i see what you are saying, i had to do the same thing with a ps3 back in the day
-
That sounds like the exact problem im having but unfortunately it still takes a couple minutes for it to boot on a cold boot after installing those drivers, thinking of maybe reinstalling windows from scratch because at this point it almost seems like an OS problem.
-
Did you install the drivers with "Clean install" checked at the bottom, its possible it carried over the corrupted file if not. =)
-
Yeah i actually do a clean install every time, but had no luck, a lot of people have been reporting black screens with nvidia cards after the creators update but i completely removed the creators update because the boot times were extremely slow.
-
Interesting =( and that sucks. I am running the C-Update with a 1080 and it runs like butter, Tho I did a fresh install from Microsoft Win 10 ISO that had the C-update included. I'm not running into alot of the issues that others are, it looks like a fresh install is best course of action.
-
Thanks im thinking im gonna try that because nothing else it seeming to work, just curious, if i go to Create Windows 10 installation media and put the installation on a usb would that include the creators update or would i have to manually install the creators update after that? Sorry for the bold text, and i actually have no dvd drive in my laptop so a usb would really be my only option

As long as you download the new one from Microsoft it will download the new iso and put it on a USB drive. If you use Dells version it will not. Neg side to a Microsoft version is that you have to download whatever drivers you are missing from the Dell support site.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
click "Download Tool Now" button and it will download and create a bootable USB drive with windows on it. (This is a fresh install tho and will have to redownload drivers from Dell when done. This is the route I went with my PC. -
Thanks a bunch! Gonna try that later today, ill post my resultsFajo likes this.

Just download the ISO using media creation tool and then use Rufus to burn the ISO. Make sure its UEFI compatible on FAT32/NTFS formatted USB stick.
-
You dont have to do any of that with the way Microsoft does it now.
You simply download the tool now and select the media you want installed and where and it makes a bootable image on the drive it self. Its all plug and play now with them. -
@lokoroxbr had the trouble of recognizing his SSD after using MS tool, used Rufus and everything worked. Try 'em both.lokoroxbr likes this.

Thanks for the advice guys, i just used the microsoft bootable option and installed windows with the creators update from scratch, and even after a clean install it still takes a minute or two to boot up from cold boot, thinking now it could be the solder issue, but you were saying that it wouldnt even turn on if that was the issue?
-
Yes, It would turn on just fine just no go anywhere until it made contact and was able to continue. You said its under warranty, let Dell deal with it. =D
-
with MS tool i had problem trying to install the OS in my SSD.
My advice: Download your windows version by this site ( @Vasudev posted for me) - Downlaod the exactly version of your system >> Download link > https://tb.rg-adguard.net/index.php
Burn the ISO with RUFUS. I selected the following options:
- GPT to UEFI
- NTFS
Used this video as guide:
now install your OS normally

I had this issue on one of my units, come to find out Dell likes to have drive mode set on "Raid" I flipped it to "UEFI" in the bios and it solved the install issue. But none the leas whatever helps get a fresh install on the computer.
