The 1070 ships with a 180w psu? The Blade ships with a 230 and still has power issues.

    Setup and Specifications Manual
    Service Manual
Seems like the i5 option isn't ready yet. Also am curious as to why they're bundling a backpack with all configs.
EDIT: Looks like maintenance has improved a lot for the m15. After removing the base cover, you're greeted by the heatsink, battery, RAM, etc.

180w PSU should be sufficient. You will not be overclocking much at all with the thinner form factor which means you are looking at around 45W on CPU and 100W for GPU leaving 35 for everything else which is reasonable. It will be interesting to see what any testing reveals. And how the TB3 controller is plumbed up with PCIe lanes. The current 15 has its x4 for TB3 come right off the CPU which is exciting.

Design-wise, on the inside, it looks like a heavier duty XPS 15 which is not a terrible thing. The accessibility is awesome and all one could hope for (well, one could hope for 4 screws on each cooling apparatus but alas....)

8750H uses way more than 45w even without overclocking. I usually get up to around 70w, here's hoping the 8750H's in the m15's are binned better.

I have my eye on this thing tho. my 15 R4 is pretty good, but it's so damn heavy. Like you can see and read how much it weighs but it's a different story when it comes time to start lugging it all over the place.

    I ordered one today. 8750h/1070mq/144hz/16gb/512ssd/90w/silver.

I paid $1,935 with tax here in the US (this included a one time 15% discount via the arena daily quest game). Estimated delivery is Nov 15. I'll do a review as well.

Mine was £1850 for 8750h/1070/144/16gb/256gb90wh/nebula and a 15" vindicator bag (as we don't get a free bag in the UK)

    The 1070 is Max-Q between 80W and 90W

    180W should be just fine

Razer's power issues are firmware related not PSU

Lol. The original Area-51 m15x was a gorgeous laptop. I loved that skullcap design, so much so that I bought a M9750 lid for my OCZ whitebook back in the day.

If anyone ordered the m15 and have a older m15x, m17x, m11x, m14x, or m18x In nebula red, can y’all post a side by side pic?

I’m curious if they kept the same shade of color.

Considering this to replace my AW 13R2. Would miss the touchscreen though, but I hope the serviceability on the m15 is better. Hoping more configurations become available over time, and I wonder what would happen next year to this when supposedly mobile Turing comes?

The new gen CPUs and GPUs should be a drop in replacement with minor motherboard tweaks into this same design. They will milk this for at least 2 gens before doing a broader redesign - that costs money. Look at the current gen Alienwares, Intel 6th, 7th, and 8th gen CPUs all in one design (and only one gen of Nvidia because they have been lazy in the absence of competition)

    Ordered the 8750H/1070/144hz/512ssd/16gb/90whr
With Tax it came out to $2005 ish. Military discount. Still debating on canceling and getting the same specs but with 1060. Watching videos on 1060 OC vs 1070 Max Q makes me a little weary.

Before I made this purchase I had a G7 for about a week. The build quality on those things are atrocious. Was on the fence for a MateBook X Pro with a Razer Core..but decided this was the one.

    First reviews are out: https://www.laptopmag.com/reviews/laptops/alienware-m15
The laptop seems to get quite warm under load, but the fps on games compared to the gs65 are equal / slightly better so the cooling appears to work. Sadly there is no detail about the temperatures of the components.
So it seems to be a solid slim and light gaming laptop.

Is it just me, or are the benchmark scores from Laptopmag and Tom's Hardware strikingly similar?

They could easily offer the higher spec laptop with a 240W adapter. Same plug on the laptop. I will actually use a 240W with mine (when I get one) most of the time just because those are what I already have all around my house. They have offered the same laptop with different size PSUs based on config many times in the past. The on-board circuitry just needs to be able to handle it. I actually have a 330W I will use with it too

The clocks already drop below 2.2GHz in this model. What’s the point with unlocked chips then? Even the thicker AW15R4 struggle cool down the i9 with stock clocks.

And temp on the keyboard is already near 50C as it is.

Not likely. Don't be nervous, the laptop is usable, you just will have throttling or need to downclock. Neither is the end of the world (in reality) just annoying. EVERY laptop in this size class will have the same issues.

I guess that’s true. I had a sli 1080 Ti system but sold it off during the bitcoin craze for well over what I built it for, and since then just haven’t felt the need to build again. Much rather have something portable as I move around a lot for my job. So I’m not use to the thermal constraints of these laptops.

And Dell makes a nervous as the two G7s I received were both defective. One had a ticking fan and the others bezel plastic wasn’t glued down and the light bleed was out of this world. And the AMD All in One we got earlier this year uses all custom parts so I can’t upgrade the GPU or chipset through anyone but Dell, and it’s just unstable.

Had alienwares back when I was younger and loved them so was hoping I could get back there.

The G7 is plastic everywhere, definitely more cheaply made. That being said, while the material quality will be higher, the build quality may not be. Still made at an assembly line on the other side of the planet as cheaply as possible. Usually nothing that a thorough inspection by you can't remedy though.

I don't think it'll come to India, if its incoming, the price will be equivalent of a sedan and buying a sedan that works correctly is the way to go. @VICKYGAMEBOY Are you gonna buy m15?
