3200MHz CL16 fully works? oh god what a good surprise.

Would anyone ever try 2x32GB 3200MHz?

Can one of the owners confirm if the R2 is using Microsoft precision touchpad drivers? It is advertised as a "premium precision-point glass touchpad" like the m15R3 and m17R3, but the 51mR2 still has the same non-precision touchpad drivers as the R1 posted on it's support website.

If you check the driver version posted on the R2 Drivers page, the version number is similar to the one from the R1 with just a slight update. This is how the Synaptic Driver version numbers look like: 19.5.17.16

    The R1 had 19.5.17.13

Not been following the forum much lately, but curious to know if you can undervolt the CPU on the R2. Is this possible? How?

The only joke is that the 256 gb is a 2242 pfffff :')

Luckily I'm gonna change it for a Samsung but they really went with the cheapest possible

On my R1 it was a decent SSD nvme that I got even though it was 256

Thanks. But can you put whatever undervolt value until the Cpu crash du too low voltage? Or is it a cap equal as for Dell’s software?

And have you checked if there is a power limit cap? Easiest is to add some voltage and follow maximum package power you are able to pull out from the chips (within 100C).

Checking right now but apparently pl1 is 250 and pl2 350

Stable up to -130 mv wich lower the temps to 80 degrees with cinebenchr20 while drawing 200 w
Going up to -135 crashes automatically

There is no power cap but the cooling itself ,
Throttling happens around 280 w then it will just keep on throttling and draws no more

Thanks. Can you put PL1 and 2 to unlimited value? Or put PL1 as PL2? I expect the chips reach end of TAU (seconds) and clocks drop to PL1 limit.

Hi guys, bad news I'm sorry ref the RAM, it failed this morning when under load playing Yuzu and again with PSO2 (Benchmarking and regular use prior was not any issue). The Crucial reverted initially to 2933 @CL17 then automatically crashed again a few minutes later and changed to 2666 @ CL 19....

It is the same issue on changing any of the timings via iXTU of the stock XMP RAM. It applies successfully after a reboot but crashes following any significant load.

Main thing is the stock XMP works fine at stock CL22 which I have stress tested since to ensure I had not caused any issue.

For info the AWCC had reported once id changed the timings of the stock that an unsupported OC was present and had to be reset via the BIOS. This reset or when I put the stock RAM back in initially sets the XMP to 2666, you then have to change back and reboot via the AWCC.

Apologies for anyone who may have already placed an order for the crucial memory or having high hopes for faster timings.

+rep on reporting this ASAP. Is there any BIOS control over RAM frequency/timing at all? If not, HyperX 2933 CL17 would be the safest bet IMHO. Otherwise the 3200 HyperX can run as either the unimpressive CL20 3200, or 2933 CL17. Last time I did my research HyperX couldn't be beat for a combination of compatibility, reliability and performance.

So in the specs of my Alienware Area-51m R2, it looked liked I was getting the Toshiba XG6 SSDs for my 2 TB [RAID] + 2TB [Storage] Configuration. Upon checking, I noticed that Dell changed that and included the Western Digital PC SN730 NVMe SSD instead (all 4 of em). I Googled reviews of that and couldn't find anything, only for the SN750 which I thought was better due to the higher number.

So I asked on Anandtech Forum as they have some really knowledgeable people who know about SSDs and here is the reply:

Western Digital PC SN730 NVMe SSD Reviews?

Turns out it is a very decent SSD with great sustained performance because the benchmarks of the SN750 show that and this is even slightly better. I'll post all the benchmarks in my review soon.

I missed you had Ray Tracing on at first and was like holy heck this game is brutal at Extreme settings. But that makes a lot more sense. This is all stock from Alienware? And your video description mentions the 10900K is at 3.7 GHz? Did you lock the frequency to help with thermals?

Thanks, there is nothing i can identify in the BIOS to change timings or speeds. iXTU allows you to change timings and speeds however anything outside of stock causes a crash under stress test. The AWCC allows you to go between the 2933 and 3200 on the stock, however has no options with the third party RAM. Also the Stock Kingston 3200 XMP is unfortunately @CL22!

Thanks also for the ref to HyperX, which I've been a big fan of, however i'm unsure if a latency of 5ns vs the additional speed of the stock XMP warrants the cost or provide much difference in performance?

3.7ghz is the base frequency when turbo doesn't kick in that was automatically reported by Nvidia shadowplay when i uploaded. It runs at about 4.8ghz most of the time.
I've got a modest overlock of 180mhz on the gpu core and 150mhz on the memory. Cpu has a -95mv undervolt.

    What happened exactly?

You can't get the exact image which has everything pre-installed but what you can do is use the Dell OS Recovery Tool to create a bootable USB Flash Drive which can then download the OS and install it recreating the factory image then the drivers will be downloaded automatically using Dell SupportAssist

Note: Next time, the first thing you wanna do when you get a new machine is have a Macrium Reflect Recovery USB Thumb Drive ready and boot off it immediately the moment you turn it on and take an image of the entire disk so you can restore it back easily in the future.

Is there a better way to clone than with the Samsung software?

I've never in my life used the Samsung software to clone. The only tool I use to clone, backup, or restore, is Macrium Reflect!

Make sure to right click on the files you just downloaded, go to Properties, then hit Unblock from the bottom right as it may be blocked since it was downloaded from the internet, if you don't do this before you run the file, then it may not install correctly.

To prevent this automatic blocking of files in the future so you don't have to go unblocking every file you download to ensure it runs properly, follow the guide in this thread:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/are-you-sure-you-want-to-run-this-file-yes-or-no.825668/

Use this ISO to burn the image onto a USB Flash Disk using Rufus then boot off it:

Macrium Reflect Rescue Media v7.2.4971 (Supports RAID and cloning/restoring to dissimilar hardware)

Use the windows built in imaging tool?

Image to another disk or usb and then restore to your samsung 970. Even though it says windows 7 on the utility on windows 10 it still works.

Wait, how was he able to find out which drives he was getting prior to delivery? I was told I would have to wait for the laptop to see what drives I was getting. For reference sake, I ordered 2TB Raid 0 (2 x 1TB) and I'm hoping to get the SN730's.

Who's he? I was talking about myself.

Here is how I found out.

    1) I went to my laptop's driver's page and entered the service tag

    2) There is a link at the top to view system configuration. That's how I knew that I was getting the Toshiba XG6 (initially) but I ended up receiving the laptop with WD PC SN730

Oh how did I get my service tag even before receiving my laptop? Simply, I called Dell here in Dubai and gave them my order number while it was shipping so they were able to provide me with my service tag beforehand so I could check the configuration and whatnot.

    2020-08-02_232230.png

PS: I ordered mine on the 9th of July so if you ordered around that same time frame you might get the same SN730

In the case of 2933 CL17 vs Dell's 21 (IMHO Dell's CL22 "3200" memory is not worth it at all), the difference is 4 cycles, or about 1.3ns. More to the point, the CAS latency is 20% lower, so the memory bandwidth will be roughly 20% higher. Evidently people spend thousands of dollars for more marginal updates, and in this case we are actually talking about saving money. I'm sorry the Corsair trick backfired on you, an understandably disheartening experience, but still, anyone buying a new unit should consider the 8GB + HyperX route.

Ohhh- I see, so logically I would just ask Dell for my service tag?

I ordered on July 13th but my system hasn't shipped yet, estimated arrival date is August 10th so it would have to ship early next week if I should expect it by the 10th.

You can contact them once it has shipped. They won't know your service tag before it ships.

    Oh. I see.

From your experience how many days did it take for the laptop to arrive after it shipped? Though I live in Canada so it would probably take longer than yours anyways.

Sequential read/write isn’t always the most important. Yeah, in benchmarks it matters. I would rather focus on the 4K random read/write. But depends on your computer usage.
