What drive models did you all get, I ordered 2TB Raid 0 (2 x 1TB) and I'm hoping to get PM981a's or SN730's, has anyone else ordered the same drive configuration and can verify what drives they are?

No gsync on the 300hz model. It's odd. My timespy scores are fine but firestrike isn't.

Gaming performance seems fine so must be something to do with the settings enabled on the benchmark maybe?

How long does it take to get this thing shipped? I've been waiting since 07/10 and it still only says "confirmed".

So excited for you! This should be a huge upgrade! No more thermal throttling and this is the best performing laptop out there right now. [IMG]

Hey guys, I'm one click away from buying this machine with 10700k and 2070 Super. But I have this turmoil. 300hz vs 144hz with g-sync. I don't care about high refresh rate (144 is plenty), I play pretty much just RPG games. My only reasoning to go for 300hz is color coverage and contrast(and that feel of getting newer technology). I'm very sensitve to any kind of glitch, artifact or tear. People told me that 300hz is so fast that even when I'll be pushing only 100 fps, I won't notice any stutter, but I'm not sure. Can you please convince me to either one of these panels, so I can buy this beast in peace without feeling like I'm sacrificing something?
    Thanks!

@Spartan@HIDevolution I'm about to order a silicon lottery cpu i9 10900k bin 5.0 GHz on all cores with delid so I don't bother doing it myself .
I was just wondering if it was really worth buying compared to the stock one I'm gonna get on my area 51m R2 ?
I know for sure the 5.1 would have made a huge difference but what about the 5.0?

Depends on your luck my friend. I have never, like EVER gotten a good CPU. When I got a Silicon Lottery 6700K rated at 4.8 GHz (they rate them in a desktop not a laptop), that effectively allowed me to run it at 4.6 GHz on all cores all day and ever day without the need to even undervolt.

You can try out the stock one which comes maybe you get a good one. For me personally, I wanna cut to the chase so that's why I've ordered the 5.1 GHz dedlidded Silicon Lottery CPU to have it exchanged with the stock one. I seriously have no more time or patience to try out if I get a good CPU or not.

In your case, even the 5.0 GHz would be better than any sotk 10900K. Heck if it even runs at the advertised speeds without overheating and thermal throttling that alone is worth it.

Well I don't have patience for that either, just want something that works right away outta the box.
So I'm taking the delided 5.0 GHz so I just don't have to do a thousand different tests to see if I am lucky or not .
The only part I hate is having to change all those thermal pads and determine the size of them .
But after its been done it should run like a beast

well you answered yourself there. Sine you're like me and don't like doing this nor have the patience, then get that CPU, put the pads, and call it a day.

PS: Using GELID GC Extreme on mine for both CPU + GPU and Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut between the CPU Die and IHS

If it makes you feel any better, ordered the same one as you (might) with the 300hz. I did it because of the reasons you have.

I hope this helps you click. I'm excited and was told mine will ship 3rd with a delivery date of August 10.

Sorry I didn't get the memo. Gelid is quite a bit more dense, which I guess could be a plus in a laptop, although you would think Phobya is already dense enough. Then again, Gelid only has half the thermal conductivity of Phobya...

    Alienware Area-51m R2 System BIOS v1.3.0

Make sure to right click on the file you just downloaded, go to Properties, then hit Unblock from the bottom right as it may be blocked since it was downloaded from the internet, if you don't do this before you run the file, then it may not install correctly.

To prevent this automatic blocking of files in the future so you don't have to go unblocking every file you download to ensure it runs properly, follow the guide in this thread:

Damn... That machine got butchered. Looks like a 10% performance increase with an older chip (and 25% less core's) damn...

@Prema ftw, we wouldn't be nowhere without his astronamical work he's done (saving even manufactuers like Clevo sometimes) To be fair, a DTR without Prema bios, is the same as a BGA turdbook with lockdown bios and an management eninge which runs on the loose (without Intel even having any control over it)

Thank you, are you a mind reader? That's the chart I was trying to find!

I will take those results with a hefty pinch of salt. Gelid GC Extreme does indeed do 0.2C better than Phobya (I'm now curious about their testing methodology, given the meaningless temp deltas), but actually it's our old friend Kryonaut which beats both Phobya and and Gelid by 1C. Of course, we know that Kryonaut can be OK initially, but unfortunately tends to lose its properties/pump out quickly.

Up until know, we've pretty much had a consensus on Phobya NGE being the best non-LM paste on the market, so we'll need a lot of solid data on both initial and long term performance to dethrone it. Mine is going strong after 10 months, whereas Kryonaut failed after 6.

True, would not let Kryonaut near any of my machines. Total waste of time as it is the quickest to deteriorate in performance. I'm using GELID GC Extreme right now on my R1 and it's perfectly fine

I did you're right but remember when Dell swapped my fried motherboard due to previous leak of Liquid Ultra that only happened months after I used it? That's when I thought lemme try GELID GC Extreme and he results were pleasing so I never bothered and it's still doing well just like when I first applied it. These 2 are the best you cant go wrong with either one of them

The thing is about g-sync, it feel nice when hz are the same as fps. I never tried even 144hz, but if I just simply lock the game to 60 fps on my 75hz monitor, it looks and feels so bad and thats what I'm afraid of, if I'm gonna run around 100fps on 300hz

How is the fitment for the gelid extreme ? does it make good contact with bad HS designs ? or was it trial and Error. I'm under the impression that the baseplate (coldplate of the aw heatsinks) has too much imperfections, and only with a good lap it'ill work.

My run of the mill cpu hits 4.9 on all cores
It looks to have made gaming off just the 330w psu better from what i can tell?

I'm getting 310 fps on overwatch with both PSU and still getting 310 fps on overwatch with just the 330w power supply.

No vsync or gsync. Monitor is 300hz so 310 means it's definitely off.

Playing witcher 3 which will max the gpu i get 165 fps on max settings with both psu.
    With just on supply.
    330w = 120 fps
    240w = 70 fps.

    They have definitely improved it.

OK, a soft FPS limit in overwatch then. To quote Prof Google:

Overwatch is capped to 300 frames per second, but most professionals play at higher framerates using a simple trick to unlock the framerate.

Haha that's my random witcher 3 video, I uploaded to show a friend.

I suppose with it being a R2 with very minor changes and spec bump most places aren't bothering or not many have the machines yet?

You think there is a difference between intel IHS stock Vs copper ihs ? I know intel stock is nickel copper but I was watching a few videos and it looks like there is a 5 degrees difference .
Would that be because the copper one is completely flat and the stock IHS a bit concave?

Since you work for them is there anyway you could do us another favor and ask them the thickness of the pads they're using and where exactly :)

When did your order? I ordered my system directly from Dell on the 13th, about 12 business days ago, and my system hasn't even shipped yet.
