Nvidia pushed RTX on devs but forgot to also push MultiGPU, which I believe is necessary for RTX enabled games and high refresh rate panels

great to see they prioritize cpu cooling. everywhere else its the other way around, GPU heat pipe goes cuts onto CPU and into CPU fan. even if its only 1 heat pipe goes towards the other fan its still good to see.

Ironically the 700 series was when I first tried sli in my desktop setup. Plenty of games took advantage of it. I eventually sided graded from my 780 sli to a titan x. From that point forward I just stuck with single gpu's. I noticed less screen tearing since I don't think gsync was available yet. So that alone was a big selling point to stay with one.

Hello. Guys I dicided to order this laptop, but I got lots of questions and I hope you can help.

    1. Prices are crazy so I thought to get base model but with 2080 and 144hz display and the rest components to buy somewhere cheaper. I've read that with 8700 CPU it comes without side exhausts and less heatpipes, is it true? Is there a difference in cooling system?

    2. I had conversion with representative who said that if I want to upgrade laptop and the component bought not from Dell then I gonna lose warranty. That makes me even more confuse, is it true?

    3. Is there info about materials, I'd like to know is it metallic cover and soft touch under keyboard? Don't know what color is better, maybe someone have photos with both variants?

    Thanks.

yeah man the wait is killing me but there's nothing we can do. They can order the machines from Dell on the 29th and till they receive them would be like by end of February then they need to add the extra components that we ordered, apply thermal paste, test, bla bla bla.

Ah yes I seen this when they posted it.

I was worried about the 2.0 config so I am hoping what they say is true. Loudness doesn't always mean good though. It should sound balanced, clear and not lack bass.

You came from a GT73/GT75 so your opinion will be best since you've owned one of the best laptop speakers out there lol

What are you playing ? (I'm asking seriously). Its not wrong to have options but to only have a 1080p screen on a "gaming" laptop that starts at $2500 in the year of our lord 2019 seems very very.....silly.....at least they have tobii eye tracking tho ....

No getting a 4K screen on a tiny 17 inch laptop is silly!

How does anyone in his right mind buy a 4K screen laptop?

With a 4K Screen, you can't see anything at the native the resolution which is the sharpest resolution as LCD screens only look best at their native resolutions. So if you choose another resolution it wouldn't be as sharp; same goes for DPI scaling, that and the fact that Windows DPI scaling still sucks until now and they can't fix it it seems. Often times some apps don't adhere to the DPI Scaling setting and are blurry or have misaligned text/buttons. So if you have to do DPI scaling or lower the resolution unless you have eagle eyes to be able to see tiny text on a 4K resolution. Then why do you want 4K in the first place? 4K is only good on a large 32 inch screen and above. PERIOD.

I dislike 4k in all monitor sizes. 1440p is my favorite in a 27”. 1080p looks fantastic on a good 17” panel.

Your argument for a display in a gaming (possible workstation) laptop is that you wont be able to see text while hanging out in windows. Forget gaming, video editing, photo editing, i cant see text so its dumb and nobody should have it.

1440P@120 would be what i am looking for, 1440P does look much sharper than 1080P even @ 17.3"

Yes a 27” 165hz with 2080 Ti driving it. I would rather have a nice 1080p 144hz in 17” with the 2080 driving it for max fps.

I can pull 150+ fps in BFV full ultra with the 2080 Ti @ 1440p so it makes use of it.

Its about the Pixel Density... especially at larger screens. (like you said, basically screen realistate does not matter at these sizes in most cases). While this is certainly not the most important, it certainly is very nice not to have that grainy look to the screen.

At 1440P the pixels disappear on 17" and smaller screens.

I can easily tell the difference; but it is not important enough for me for this to be a deciding factor on this laptop.

That being said...I agree 4K is ridiculous on most laptops. Very limited reason to get 4K.

4K screens make sense only for 4K photo and Video editing. You want to edit 4K in native 4K.

Now if they were offering only TN panels at 1080P... that would be a deal breaker. Grainy with crap colors.

    My order says: 17.3" FHD (1920 x 1080) 144Hz Anti-Glare IPS Display w/ NVIDIA G-SYNC + Tobii eyetracking technology

Do you think that's a real IPS screen or IPS Level? I never knew IPS Screens could have such a high refresh rate I thought they were limited to 60 or 75hz?

Every laptop manufacturer has stated “IPS-level” so I would hope it is a real IPS. I mean it wouldn’t be a deal breaker because I had the asus hero ii briefly(piece of crap) but the “IPS level” display was awesome. However I would be disappointed with them for not being upfront about it.

They are all IPS according to Dell :)

They wouls say "IPS level" if not true IPS. Either way, wayyyyy better than TN in my experience.

Windows hello is a cool feature but have you tried eye tracking in The Division ? It's really good. HUD fades away when you're not looking at it, you can aim one way and have the camera another...

I'd be hard pressed to believe if you use normal thermal compound like ic diamond or something then they would likely never know you repasted it. But the guys from HIDevolution should be covered by HID themselves. Atleast that's my understanding when I talked to Donald last.

Now if you upgrade from a 8700 to a 9900K and bought the parts yourself through a microcenter or amazon. . .unless they double check you laptop specs they might miss that too. But you can always keep the original part and swap it back if you need to send it in.

Companies have always had a if you open it you void your warranty. And it's not enforceable. Atleast that's what I hear. So if you don't do anything crazy with the laptop and just be careful you'll probably be ok. I can't imagine repair techs being strict on this. I could be wrong but I hope not.

Yep. That is the exact point of that post... Be careful of where you purchase this machine and what you do to it.

To soon to know if there will be safeguards they build in to know if this will be an issue. This maybe a poor comparison, but look at what lengths Mobile manufacturers go to on their devices. Also need to find out If there are tampering mechanisms, at what lengths companies (or Dell /AW) will go to enforce it. All we really know right now is what Dell is has said publicly.

Which gets back to that post of mine suggesting people should proceed with caution at this time.

HID isn’t even offering LM on the cpu, seems they are being careful.

“Gelid GC Extreme on CPU + Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut on GPU, and Fujipoly Extreme Thermal Pads on heat sensitive surfaces – installed by HIDevolution“

Wasn't really talking about that, as that would be this guy's route (me), an offering where HIDevolution (or whatever trusted reseller) takes care of you.

I was mostly addressing posts we see popping up in some of the Area-51m threads where ppl say they'll purchase with lower CPUs and upgrade it themselves.

Looks like the Area 51m messenger bag is officially on preorder along with the Gear bag. Both look nice. I'm still waiting on the backpack. ;)
