1 year is fine, you can always add warranty later. Also remember this only has two m.2 slots. Limiting them both to 256gb I don’t think is a great idea. I plan on putting a 1tb m.2 in my second slot later.

I cannot return the system because I live in the UAE and will buy from Hidevolution. Don't know if they have a 30 day return policy.

I've seen the rise of AW and it's eventual downfall. I, for one, am rooting for AW to make a grand comeback. This might be their last chance considering they have some stiff competition now.

    Noted. Thanks

That's why I will order from Hidevolution because their customisation is pretty solid.

I don't think they even have it listed yet. By the time you can order there may be a review out somewhere, assuming someone gets it by Jan 29th.

I would have but will probably be quite a big longer until you get it. After watching Linus’s video he did a mini teardown, a repaste would be very easy if required. Although I probably wouldn’t use LM. The cooling looks top notch so heres hoping I dont need too! Again though I can always return it.

Don’t think its shipping until mid/late Feb.

According to one of the videos maybe, Frank said something regarding a special paste on the cpu that you need to preserve warranty.

Battery boost works silently even if you have enough high power PSU. Ask Falkentyne since he did same thing on his MSI Book

If you force CPU side to equip with 330W and gpu to 180W then its bad. If GPU side can only take 180W like GTX 1080 then its bad. Maybe they are taking into account the Turing arch. efficiency by pairing with 180W PSU.

I think those are older EOL'ed Micron or SK Hynix or Samsung chips left to be cleared off warehouse.
RAM sticks simply runs based on JEDEC and XMP values. Backtracking to 2400 might mean they are blocking higher 2667MHz aftermarket RAMs in BIOS and force users to use higher CAS. Let's see what crucial site says once A51M comes out.
At the end of the day, it depends how well firmware takes care of OC and overall system performance since m18x users are inching for a true worthy LGA heir.

Wait for few months because you need enough parts stock.

0 days in India, you buy it you live with it until rest of your life. No help for subsequent repairs for the same case example Overheating,Battery,LCD screen bleed etc.. Dell opens their eyes after warranty runs out for more cash.

    You use HID warranty anyway.

Also repasting does not void their warranty... simply because the technicians at Dell cant actully tell the difference between their paste and yours. Only LM should be cleaned off, then grey gunk applied before sending to Dell.

I think overall though. Even if you admit to repaste it won't void. I think their statements are confused. Probably thinking delidding and reporting between CPU and IHS

Don't admit to anything! Just a paste is enough. 8th gen might need delid or SL qualified chip for best OC and performance.

Will depend on the chip, my 9700k in my desktop runs at 60 degrees under full load but under a 360 aio. Would assume it should run under 80 degrees easily in the 51m if you get a good one. The cooling looks pretty inpressive with those big ass fans and only 1 shared heatpipe. Personally I would avoid the 9900k version though.

And yea, never admit to anything ever lol.

on pcgh (german video test : ) the 9900k within 95W they just got 3,6 to 4,2 ghz, and for 4,7ghz they had 145W - so 119W is not much ...
The more I think about the 51m, the more doubts i have ..

I wish someone had more high resolution video of the thing close up, these quick, short promo shots just aren't doing it for me. It says my order will arrive 19FEB, this is my first AW and I hear they have issues shipping on time so that would be a bummer.

My six core BGA cancer clocks higher than that. But I have to say it has 2 cores, and 4 threads extra. AW should give us the option to disable HT in the bios cause my chip can run alot cooler (and clock higher) if Dell did not TDP lock the ish out AW

All CPUs can have hyperyhreading disabled in the Registry. It's not really disabling it as much as making the load on threaded cores 0%

Or for 350 less just get the i7-9700K which is a much better option in this lapptop

Yeah i tried that, but Windows keeps creating 6 extra threads. I think that registry trick still would work on windows 7 but windows 10 kernel is filled with crap. Bios (UEFI) is the way to go, just like Ocing. Can be done from windows, but bios rules so it is most of the times more stable than windows.

Dear god please dont remind me.
I don't want to be reminded of this hellhole.
At 330W system power draw, the battery drains about 10% in 30 minutes. Only way to stop it is remove the battery and then hack a few EC registers to make the EC think the battery is still connected so it won't throttle the CPU to 800 mhz.

I'm thinking of pulling the trigger and it's been a LONG time since I ordered from Dell (an AW Aurora desktop in... 2009?)

Two questions I hope someone can help with:

    1. Their configurator is absolute ass and it's changed pricing and components like nine times in the last two days. I plan to upgrade the RAM and SSDs to the products of my choice when they arrive (I've had bad luck mixing RAM in the past, and I will be using a single 970 Pro 2TB Nvme). So, it seems the CHEAPEST way to get the 9900K and RTX 2080 is to buy the base model on the site, keep everything stock, and just upgrade the CPU and GPU. Comes out to $3,699 and seems to trigger the bigger Power supply cord and I'd assume the best heatsinks. Any issue with this?

    2. There is a $200off code bringing the price to $3,499. In the past I've had a lot of luck calling and haggling either a free accidental warranty or another 5-10% off. But so far I keep striking out. Has anyone had any luck getting additional discounts, or is there a new trick to it? I know it might be tough on a new model, but back in the day it was pretty easy... AW seems to ALWAYS have a 10% off code once a month.

    1. Save yourself some cash and get i7-9700K. The i9-9900K is useless for gaming (it actually performs worse in many cases than the i7-9700K in games). the i7 will have much better thermal headroom too.

    2. If you are a student, you can also get that discount (I think all you need is a University Email and or ID)

Long time no post......guys after being screwed by alienware in the past this really seems too good to be true. On the flip side I want it to be true because I have old love for alienware "Before Dell" and I do like the visual design. I am tuned in.

Are we sure the 9700K gets the maximum/fulll bore heat pipes/cooling solution? Even if the 9700K performed better with less, I couldn't get over having an inferior cooling set up with a $3,000+ setup.

I just realized my company offers me the member pricing - which seems similar to student discount.

    Right now, Lunar White ($50 extra, so stupid) + 9700K + 2080 + 144 G-Sync = $3,437 before tax after all discounts.

If I could get this down to $3,200 before tax, I'd probably pull the trigger. $3,000 and no question, then and there on the spot. So close but so far...

That with win pro? Could knock it down to home then buy a cheap upgrade code online. Just an idea :). I ordered pretty much the same specs except “Dark side of the moon”, 512gb m.2 / 1tb sshd. Will add my own 1tb m.2 later.

I was gonna order just the one m.2 but I figured Dell would pull some kind of stunt like in the past that if you don't get a 2.5 they wont include the tray, fixture screws etc. This system may only need a screw but still did not wanna take a chance.

In linus’s mini teardown I noticed the standoff and screw was on the mobo for the spare slot I believe. Can’t see them doing that tbh.

Low quality pic, watch some youtube videos on it. Looks amazing to me. 144hz ips gsync gimmie.

Dell advertise their new model with "allowing high-end overclocking". I wonder if Dell's engineers ever have tested their computers properly in benchmarks and monitored maximum Cpu package power consumption and same time followed the clock speed behaviour. Maybe some should send them a link to Hwinfo64?

If mobility wasnt a huge deal.. Based on the pricing here would you guys say i should just go with an Aurora i9 9900K build with 2 RTX 2080's for the same price? as this Alienware area 51? Thank you for your opinions

If you need a desktop get a desktop, if you need a laptop get a laptop. SLI is worthless. get a 2080ti instead of two 2080’s. Also why would you buy a prebuilt? You probably have a local pc shop that will take your parts list and build you one most likely cheaper and better.

Can one of you guys (someone who actually has enough time to do this) please email or twitter Frank Azor for me?
    tell him directly this
Tell him--the guy who hacked the MSI Battery Boost and power limits recommends he take the time BEFORE release to allow this laptop to be WORTHY of the old Alienware name and allow FULL overclocking and a FULL unlocked Bios, WITHOUT BATTERY BOOST, up to 200W CPU power (power limit 1 max).

Tell him I am FULLY aware that he wants to protect against RMA's and their property. In that case, Azor can do something very simple:
ANYONE who wants unlimited overclocking (up to 200W TDP, you aren't going to keep a CPU under 100C at 200W anyway), needs to contact Alienware for a special unlock code which will allow full range TDP to 200W. However, doing this will REQUIRE signing a warranty agreement that you will INVALIDATE your warranty (except certain premium warranties) by doing this, so you take full responsibility if you choose to do this. Only after signing, you will receive a SHA encrypted code which will unlock your power limit in the bios to 200 watts. The people that will choose to void their warranties will hopefully be the ones knowledgeable enough to repair their own hardware if something goes boom afterwards from their overclocking, or will otherwise be allowed to push their systems to that limit.
This way, Frank, you cover your butt and Alienware's butt by not having to warranty laptops that are pushed beyond Alienware's designed limits, while also allowing users who feel they are responsible enough to exceed TDP as required for non power virus testing (sorry, folks, no FMA3 small FFT prime95 for you at 200W), for games that need that CPU power, like Battlefield 5, can then do so.

Of course this will take a little engineering work and some think tanks to make this work, but I'm sure this will make some people happy. And if they don't want to void their warranty, they don't register for the unlock code.

    ======
    That's it.
Am I insane ? Or does someone want to contact Mr Azor, Joe or whatever his name is and ask them this?
It sure won't be me doing it.

What's the point? It already run 99°C in Cinebench R15. Of course you can undervolt, but if you want run it the way as adverticed aka with "high-end overclocking" You will need stock voltage. And if you shall allow max overclock... All power limits needs to be removed. Not half baked.

At launch, Dellware was charging what I estimated to be $882 for 9900k in Aurora (1st pay $332 for i5 9600k then also pay $550 for 9900k)

Prices & configs have changed slightly since then; the 9600k 1060 Tier 1 setup used to start at $1300, they've raised it by $50 then tossed in a $100 off; raised 9900k to add $570, so 9900k = $900 before discount today

    Was $1850 for 9900k + 1060, today w/$100 coupon = $1820, therefore 9900k = 520 + 320 = $840 today, regardless the GPU

Typically you'd buy the i5 9600k configuration (invest $332 into it) then grab 9900k from Newegg ($530) & save some $ / get both CPUs for the cost of just theirs (sell 9600k to recoup or hold as spare)

GPUs are up to u. They're shipping un-branded MSI Aero 1080s / 2080s, blower style, entry-level cards; u could get the 1060 & buy your own 2080s later (sell 1060 etc)

I concur 2080Ti is better choice than SLI 2080

GPU prices are sane, it's 9900k that's insane. Always opt for the 850w PSU

Whether u go laptop or desktop is up to u

Most deals & discounts come from calling or chatting the order in, since the sales page can't & won't negotiate. Best of luck

Why the i9?? The i7-9700K is both far better for gaming and benchmarks in mobile solutions. The i9 will cook with it's unneeded 16 threads and it's 30-40% more Watt consumption.

I've ordered a Silicon Lottery one, have always had excellent experience with their CPUs as they are binned and run much cooler than your standard CPU. That, with the Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut + Fujipoly Extreme Thermal Pads and HIDevolution's superb job at building laptops, should take care of things.

As to why the 9900K, I either go for the best or I don't go at all.

there you go, spot on. [IMG]

    Done
I honestly would go i9-9900K as well. No point getting 2nd best.

Any idea when you'd be receiving it?

well if they receive it on the 29th of January, I am guessing maybe somewhere in mid February but I'm not sure. I didn't get a chance to speak with @Ted@HIDevolution about this yet. Just ordered it on the spot the moment I saw their ad on the Facebook Page for HIDevolution

Is the base model in Hidevolution more expensive than the base model in Dell's website?

A huge progress vs. your last purchase bro :) BGA is DEAD END! But please don't try be Dell's firmware guinea pig, in the same way as you was with MSI. You will be damn screwed if newer firmware doesn't work the way as you hoped for.

You see? What Dell machine you have doesn't really matter. Good luck!

Talk to Donald@hidevolution. Members of this forum get a discount. So it'll be about the same when it's all said and done. But if you would like a delidded cpu and thermal upgrades then Hidevolution is very much worth it. Plus Donald is very nice and will walk you through the ordering process over the phone. Very painless.

Thank you. I will do that but before I order, I want to see the thermal limits of this laptop and the difference in performance between a 2080 Vs a 2070 considering it's a 1080p screen. 450$ for 20fps is not worth it for me. Also, I'm thinking of skipping the 9700 and 9900k completely. 8700 just might me good enough for my needs. We'll see.
