Once the AW 17" GTX 1080 model releases, things will change up. Yea, it's a little strange how they have the configuration up right now....but in due time....next month.

So the UHD has bad light bleed eh? Hmm...Looking forward to more reports, because I really want that screen for my AW17 GTX1080 model.

I am not sure but I think it can be ordered but you have to select the 1070m first and then select the 6820hk

The UHD in R4 does not have bleed. And the 6820HK can be configured with FHD in the US.
I think your panel has an exceptional case. What is the model name of your panel?
Also which country are you from?
And how much concerning is this light bleed?

OK guys give me a list of stuff you'd like to see about the 1440p monitor. I'm downloading 3dmark now.

The viewing angles kick ass by the way, almost no degradation from any angle top and sides

Great to hear! I'm glad the new updated TN-WVA is it?, is much improved. Would you say that it is comparable to an IPS? No TN pink hue right?

How about some pictures of the monitor on a white background from an angle. That would be great..

    Thanks!

Give us some pictures of the panels from the 3-4 angles using some high pixel camera.
Also as iunlock mentioned, give some comparisons with IPS displays.
And get the sRGB/ aRGB coverage of the panel, check the contrast, the black value.
    That would be great.

Well I also wanna see comparison to other IPS, but truly speaking if there are stripes its doesn matter how good viewing angles are - its a deal breaker.

    OK videos are uploading now.

My wife can see the banding if she looks really close...like face touching the screen. I imagine it won't be an issue for a lot of folks, however I can see it very clearly from normal laptop working distance. If I was using a keyboard and had the screen at the far end of my desk its not noticable, but using the laptop it is very noticable. Also, forgive the typos, I am used to a 13" XPS keyboard lol.

And the lines are visible to me in games, it makes everything seem jaggy, like not having any kind of AA, even with all AA maxed.

A couple more impressions based on nearly two days of use ...

    1. The stock cooling is not atrocious, as I initially thought; in fact, I would call it damned acceptable, really. Currently I have a Prime95 stress test running at about the 40 minute mark and the hottest CPU core reported is 76C (using HWINFO) and zero throttling of course. My room is 23C by the way.... I'm going to let Prime95 go for about two hours but a 76C load temp after 40 minutes of Prime95 is completely acceptable for my usage scenario. My MSI GS70 would be at 85C if running the same test. GPU temps are even better of course... staying in the upper 60's/low 70's when Furmark testing. The fans produce a noticeable sound but it's of the soft "whooshy" variety and is not bothersome at all. I'm testing with all default BIOS settings in regards to fans/cpu settings. I have not enabled the various "performance" modes in BIOS.

    2. I'm typing this post on my MSI GS70 1080p TN machine and man is the difference between the IPS and this TN painfully obvious. The MSI TN panel is a *very* good TN panel but it looks positively anemic compared to the color performance of the AW IPS screen. Super gorgeous 1080p IPS screen on this AW17 ... *extremely* bright, very rich colors (witcher 3 looks INSANE on it) ... again, compared to my GS70 screen ... the AW IPS is blindingly bright ... after reading all the static about the 1440p's interlacing problem, I'm leaning more and more with the 1080 IPS screen ... though I hate the 60hz factor ...

    3. I didn't realize there were only 2 USB 3.0 ports. That will take some getting used to but shouldn't be an issue with a decent USB hub (some of my peripherals require two, side by side USB ports) ...

    4. The keyboard, man ... the keyboard. Just perfection ... I can type like all get out with this thing.

    5. All games I play run wonderfully (Witcher 3, Hawken, Borderlands, Crysis 3, etc.) ... but man is the 60hz thing annoying. I hate V Sync because of the ridiculous lag but unfortunately, with a 60hz screen, I nearly have to use it to avoid screen tearing. I'd really like to see one of the 1440p screens in person to assess whether that "line" thing would be an issue for me. Looking at my MSI screen right now, also TN, I can see no evidence of this "line" phenomenon...

    6. The speakers are decent for laptop speakers. They are not as loud as my MSI GS70's "Dynaudio" system. The AW17 speakers get loud enough for sure but where I think they are really nice is in just how "rich" and full the sound is. It seems there is even some sort of faux surround thing going on too as game sounds are very 3D and spatious ... I would have preferred more volume but otherwise, no complaints; very rich and full sound for a laptop...

I think somebody here had reported that they were able to overclock their AW screen to 100hz? Is that true? If so, what tools did you use?

BTW: is it possible to add a Dell extended warranty *after* one has bought a machine from a vendor like Best Buy? They didn't mention anything to me about it. But after working with this machine for a bit and realizing how perfect the IPS panel is (zero bleed, etc) ... I'm considering just keeping this particular AW17 instead of returning it as I initially planned. I would hate to return it and then re order a new one and get a bad IPS panel.

Anyway ... just some more random thoughts ... I'll edit this post in a couple hours after my Prime95 run hits 2 hours ...

    A question...

Do any of you foresee any issues running Windows 7 on one of these? I've never migrated to Windows 10 and still run Win 7 on all of my machines ... I've read static here and there that Win 7 might not be a good choice for Skylake CPUs (for some reason or another) ... but have never really put that to the test...

Windows 7 will run into all sorts of issues on this laptop not to mention it's a decade old. First thing would be getting it to install on a pcie ssd witch is a lot of hassle in itself... I do not recommend using windows 7. It's like buying a Porsche 911 and put a 1 litre Diesel engine in it...

Attached 4K panel from original Crysis - in game no back light bleed, only visible in the right top corner at boot up (when black screen and the brightness level is max). Panel is as bright as the 4K panel on last years A3. I was torn to hold out for 120hrtz panel, however with these screen issues think I made the right call. Only wish is they offered a glossy panel :).

That IPS 1080p screen, though ... really very good ... pics don't do it justice ... thinking more and more about it and realizing I game almost 100% of the time on an external monitor? Pretty sure I'm going to skip the 1440p screen ... this IPS screen is pretty perfect (the brightness and contrast being the main selling points; for the occasional laptop screen gaming session? I'll just deal with 60hz). Just finished a few hours of constant Metro 2033 and Witcher 3 play ... GPU temps (stock paste/settings) never went past 63C ...

Its not here yet lol. Myself and @zergslayer69 have one coming in and will be sure to let you know a raw unbias opinion about it.
With the striping issues its going to be a tough one.
However in my opinion the fact that the 4k panel has 27ms response time and the 1080p panel has 25ms response time means it comes down to which annoyance one can live with.
I personally cannot stand the ghosting associated with any panel above 6ms or so.
I personally think a gaming PC should have the lowest response time on the internal display.

    Hey...

I just opened up CSGO on the laptop and played for awhile. Banding is imperceptible in game. I then opened it up on my 4k monitor on the desktop...and wow, I never noticed how much tearing and stuttering there is, even at 120FPS.

I am considering very much keeping the laptop, seeing if they will install a new screen (especially after others get theres, maybe mine is actually busted) and maybe it will get dropped at some point in the future or something to replace when they get new screens
