    Sweet Thanks!
I ordered a 17R4 with the QHD 120Hz screen for the time being.
I could not hold out any longer for the 1080. When the 1080 comes out I guess I could bless my wife with the 1070, or something. ;)

I did the same thing in the UK but the QHD was not available at first glance until I checked Reddit and someone mentioned it was there just hidden from view until for some crazy reason you click to change CPU and then the QHD appears, weird.

My question is the QHD 120hz a G-Sync panel or standard ?

    Thanks

the only options I can seem to find is 1080p, 1080p with tobii, and 4k with tobii on the US Dell site.

Also, there is no 4k 120hz correct? not that it would ever really be utilized though.

    No 120hz 4K correct

I was able to see the QHD Option by selecting the second config in from the left and changing the option on the CPU, it doesn't actually give an option to change it (stuck with 6700) but it opens up the QHD option (must be a bug on the order page)

This is for the UK site see if it works on the US one?

actually found that it's the third option for the us dell site.

I don't know why they have to complicate things for the buyers.

just give us the stock and let us pick any option through customize wtf.

i wish there was a non-matte option though for a flat glossy screen. not a big fan of exposed bezels.

For those in the USA, Best Buy has these available now, with a configuration of the 6700HQ/FHD/1070 for $1799. They had a couple in stock at my local store, but it wasn't on display unfortunately.

Really want to buy this but speaking to dell sales reps they say the g sync panel is not available in the uk. Although i don't think they know what they are talking about.

So trying not to be rude. Is it 100% gsync in the uk?

Curious, is the G-Sync display a touchscreen like on the Razer Blade Pro, or no?

AW 17R4 - MAX Fan Noise

I've made many manual adjustments when shooting in order to get it close as possible to what it sounds in real life, because if you just shoot the video on auto, it makes the sound not very accurate.

    Enjoy...

Does anyone think we will be able to install the Intel wireless / bluetooth card instead of the killer one?

I changed out the one in my R3 to intel and was wondering will i be able to put it in the R4.....

Why shouldn't Intel Wifi cards be used in R4? I expect the Wifi card isn't soldered to the motherboard

The internal SSD is THNSN5***GPUK (*** is 128/256/512) from the toshiba XG4 Series (Non-SED model) made out of crappy tlc nand.
256GB model write speed: 330, read sp. 1170.
So its better off if you just buy with the hard drive and put in a 850 evo 500 gb at that 150$ price or the 950 pro 256GB.

Dammit. That's bad. I'll probably indeed get either the Samsung 960 pro Or the 961. If I somehow can't get my hands on those, at least will get the 950 pro.

I think they will only customise two mobos with G-sync until kaby lake. the other one with 6820 must be for the 1080.
also the 1070 is kinda mid-high end GPU compared to recent games on QHD in high-ultra, so they will give the 6820 to the more capable GPU. #marketing policy

considering that most Gsync 120/144 Hz panels are also TN, Why are all people buying the FHD/UHD whereas the Gsync display is the best one for gaming ?

    Pm961 will be best performance/ value m2
The new Samsung Polaris pm961 is as fast as the old 950 pro I think you certainly won't notice in use either.

You can get the 128/256 now and the 512/1tb release next week I think.

I think the G-Sync options are only just becoming available as an option so early adopters had little choice, I think we will see more and more going for the fast panels as time goes on

I'll find out if I've made a big mistake when I get my QHD in a week or 2

For shooters. Slow pace game doesnt need gsync as far as GPU could pump more fps than screen is capable of.

Lag matters in fast pace shooters. Secondly, gsync is not improving lag.

Anybody got the new 17 inch with the quad hd display and gtx 1070. I would like to know if it handles games fine at ultra with 100+ framrates with the 6700. I am hoping to keep it for atleast 4 years.

I am looking to upgrade from my 5 year old laptop with gt540m. I can wait a few months otherwise to get with the 1080 and the kaby lake if that happens.

    Thanks

4.6GHz isn't completely stable yet, but it's getting there. It has taken almost 5 days so far to even get close to the clocks holding at 4.6GHz throughout the entire bench, but the 6820HK has finally managed to crack into the 4's, which is pretty impressive for what it is. Right now it's dipping just a bit into the 44x and 45x, but with a little more tuning it should get there.

The goal is to get this stable at 4.6GHz and I feel that it is very possible. 4.3Ghz is rock solid for a daily driver setting so far.

At QHD the 1070 at ultra settings will give an avg of 50 FPS in recent games.
So unless you get the 1080, if you want FPS just scale down to 1080p 120Hz.
The 1070 on QHD will be outdated in 1.5 yrs
at FHD you can rely 4 yrs though.

Just like pascal beat the **** out of maxwell,
volta would be like 2.5x better than pascal.
And new games in the next 2 yrs will be optimized for higher end GPUs, or no one would buy the new gpu's if the games are not optimized for higher end chips giving lower performance to prev gen chips. Also you wont see 5K so soon, so the limiting would be in the QHD /UHD panels.

no 10-15 fps slower, so witch3 would be like 50 fps in laptop.

Also by the time volta comes out, there will be games where the 1180 cant handle 100fps+ on QHD.
This is just optimization based on marketing policy.
