has anyone received their laptop? I was looking at these and the temps and noise scare me. Also anyone get any good deals on it? I am looking at the 6700 with the 1080p screen and its about 1450 before taxes.

That's super interesting, seems you get more info than we do in the US. I can't see anything, pre-production or otherwise, I tried changing to the UK site out of curiosity and didn't get anywhere.

Interesting, my source said 18th :) Given that only a weekend separates 18th and 21st, seems both are plausible/actually the same thing. E.g. 18th might be like end of testing or something, and 21st when the first actual production starts. Interestingly, I also emailed support to ask if they had any more info and the reply was this:
"I see that his is a pre-order and the estimated time of arrival of this order is on 11/22/2016 once the order is in stock it takes time to get built and to ship."
Interpret that as you will... I highly doubt he meant arrival as in me getting it, I think that more likely means that on the 22nd the units will be ready to ship. Which again might make sense: 18th final day of testing, 21st production begins, 22nd first units get sent out. I think we cracked it :)

I plan to do a detailed review here, at least of the stuff we are interested in like detailed thermals etc and not covered in generic reviews. I plan to first do it stock, then re-paste and see what benefits it yields. Conductonaut will be my weapon of choice, done dozens of re-pastes but never LM, it'll be a first. Glad that taking off the heatsink will be much less involved than the 15/17.

Canadian buyer here, looking to order probably one of the lower models, is there much difference in the lcd display between the 1366 and 1920? Also anyone have any luck with the 10% code as well? If thats the case id probably comfortably order the 1920 version.

    Hey Guys,

I ordered the maxed spec Alienware 13 and used a discount code, made it come to £1486.65.

I called up customer services today intending to cancel my order but the women on the phone offered me a 7% refund if I kept my order which would make the laptop £1382.58. I think thats a great price is it not?

Worth keeping? I'm returning my 15r3, was thinking about a gaming desktop or 15r2 4k with a GA. I have just purchased a 980 ti, would that perform well with the 13 in the GA?

    Whats your opinions Guys? :)

I don't know why anyone would consider 1366. 1080p should be minimum by now.

Off topic though the rx470 is available for the aw17. It's cheaper than upgrading to the 1060 by £100 and it's BETTER than the 1060 if not by much especially more so in dx12 (remember the desktop 1060 is 10% better than the mobile version)
Will it make it in the aw13 or the 460? I'm not really a fanboy of any card. But I do prefer the nvidia drivers because they are more frequent and easier to get to do what I want...at least from past experience.

What's my opinion? lol what's the original code you used that saved you £300 cos even 10% only took off £179

Damn, finally available in Norway but they don't have coupons anymore as the Nordic sales department is outsourced... I think 2.300 usd for the top spec with 512GB SSD is too much...

Edit: Seems I can use a code at checkout but would UK codes work? Does anyone have a code I could try? There is no chat option in Norway...

Here is another Video with Titanfall 2. Here you can also see real time temperatues in game. I think the values are very impressive on stock paste.

    CPU: 60-62°C
    GPU: 77-79°C

Yup Got the "your Order has been delayed txt" right on cue.....

    Update;
Called them up as on my delayed tx the EDD was still the 25/11
He said after some pushing that there was a part delay (couldn't say what parts?)
Reason EDD has not changed is there is no confirmed date on the parts.
At the moment parts are Due 22/11 so item should go into "production" phase 22-23/11

So with production time and shipping im gonna call it now.... the new EDD for uk customers that originally had and EDD of 25/11 is going to be 30/11 - 2/12

and thats "if" they get the parts in as this was just an estimated date anyway. the wait goes on.

Honestly, from what I heard, production was always scheduled to begin on 11/22, so when UK buyers started posting their EDDs, I figured something like this would happen. I don't think this was a "delay", but maybe a mistake in the UK sales system.

Isnt it a bit risky to buy an oled panel for a laptop?
    1. Image retention. Lg has a program in his tvs which runs when the screen is off (but the panel has power) where it tries to heal the image retention problems. thats a tv, in a laptop a lot more pixels stay the same! this will be a problem, isnt it?
    2. Lifetime. Lg again has a patented wrgb solution to lengthen the life of his tvs, cause they can burn out "quickly", especially the blue ones, thats why they trick it with wrgb panels, so the calibration doesnt go off. I dont think theese panels have wrgb lg panels, also, i think we use a laptop monitor waaay more often then a tv. It can be a problem, isnt it?

Probably right, can only go by what they tell and take it with a pinch of salt... just letting people know is all

been without a laptop a few weeks now and its starting to be a pain in the ass :D

apparently In a vid i watched AW13 oled has some tech (dont ask me what) to help against that but they have had the 13 oled out a while now, was on the old model as well

cant seem to find many people having issues with it? be interested to find out if there is though....

Well, if there are 5 years old oled panels with it, then im ok with it, i dont plan to change my laptop year by year lol :D
Its just strange to me that lg patented some stuff and all the major panel production companies left the oled business due to longetivity issues. And a laptop panel has to survive waaay more stress then a tvs panel. I hope for the best tho.

LG's "stuff" is just a "white" OLED (probably shifted blue or blue+yellow) with RGB filter. This means you don't get the blue degradation but does nothing about image retention and probably hurts gamut as well. What you usually do today is use a bigger blue emitter with lower current reducing its degredation to something more inline with the rest.
OLED seems to have matured, the rated lifetimes are in tens of thousands of hours to half brightness, which means many years with ten hours of usage per day.

Yeah i now what wrgb is, but i didnt know there are solutions like a bigger blue emitter, i guess its almost have the same effect on lifetime but with better gamut.
Lg battles the image retention with a process after the screen is off, not with the wrgb ofc.
Also i hope image retention is truely a danger of the past, i guess we will find it out later :D

    Thx for your reply!

There's no chance of 25/11 see my post above I called them earlier

The general consensus is that they will start getting built on 22/11 AFAIK no one has even got in production on their orders yet, be month end

    Hope I'm wrong

    Update
    just got a direct message from Umar Kahn after i called him out on reddit;

"Sorry dude. I remember your question but I keep getting side tracked. My apologies. There is a hard ship date and embargo which is determined by a lot of factor. Supplier demand, technology release, additional logistic shifting (we obviously want this to reach people before the Holidays) and that's why it hasn't shipped yet. I believe it should begin heading out the 21st. (Don't quote me. I've got so many dates flying around but I'm rather confident)"

I do like how AW reps communicate. They can't respond to everything, but I think they actively try to. No matter the result, we are close now.

So the general meaning of that message is that he believes AW13's "start shipping" to customers on the 21st? If so, that's good news! I have an order from 1 Nov - so I hope I can get in the first batch. I'd love to understand what it takes to launch a product like this - what embargos on what technology drove that "hard ship date" for them. I'm guessing a lot of this is surrounding the OLED, but that doesn't answer why orders of the IPS are seeing the same EDDs. I wonder what other tech in AW13's config drives this because the components are already out in the wild in the AW15/17. I can't think of anything other than the OLED screen.

I really really don't think they will start shipping on 11/21. We are four days away and not a single person has reported that their order status had changed to indicate production or something similar.

so does anyone have the specs between the 1920x1080 screen and 1366? Quite the jump to get the better screen and if its not that big of a deal the lower screen would likely get better frame rates as well.

Good to hear - I guess we will all see next week. But with expedited shipping, and if you are in the US, Thanksgiving day off, I expect mine will still on or about 28 Nov - which has been my EDD since placing the order!

I'm really excited to see this little powerhouse and that OLED screen in my house ASAP. I'm torn between this and a Surface Book for my go-to daily driver and have that on order as well. Only one has to go back. :)

That maybe so. I was also thinking about the 951s and 950 pro. Wasn't they throttling or something due to heat? You think they rectified it in the 961s

This is due to poor airflow and heavy loads on the SSD themselves. Intel 600 series is even worse. Samsung has better temps overall. But use a thermal pad anyways to dispatch heat to the chassisplate and you will increase the lifespan of the drive and reduce throttle.

Yes but the one your talking about is the PM series these are the recommended for laptops they don't throttle like the Pro or the SM

That's why I've switched from pro to PM couldn't be happier they are just selling you snake oil with the "pro"

and no the pro 960 still throttles just not as much

Haha I did read it as SM, but yeah the PM series run cooler. Due to availability in Norway I'm going for 960 Evo, it's cheaper than PM961 here. Will report back temps with and without pads.

Also my laptop is ordered. AW13 with oled, 32GB RAM and 256GB SSD as I will put the evo inside as soon as I get it =)

Yeah the killer is bad, at least 1435. I went with the 1535 in case they have done something about it, but it is probably the drivers... Like the old soundblaster, great hardware but so bad drivers and software it still hurts...

    Edit: removed bad language... Sorry!

I would have done the same it's just i have an intel spare in a drawer and its always been rock solid so I'll just use that

but yeah the main issue with the killer is the bloatware which most people remove anyway.

Myself also looking into adding a second SSD once received, either the new Samsung 512 or 1T, my only concern would be the drivers, new laptop + new SSD, we may have to wait for new drivers.

with the 15, regular wifi cards dont fit. Its like they are half the width in the laptop. I was so disappointed. Hopefully the 13 has the normal pci wifi slots.

You might want to look for and try a newly released Intel 8265, it add's some new features that the Killer 1535 has had for a while now.

    Hey there,

I'll be deciding which one of them I would keep, as I've got two systems on order; came down to $1200 [base model with upgraded WIFI only] and $1800 [OLED screen, upgraded RAM & WIFI w/256SSD and ultimately the CPU]. Both totals include EPP and small discounts I've got [absolutely nothing compare to what I was able to get in the past from Dell] - nevertheless, I am thankful for that, as they have absolutely no single reason to provide any discounts at all.

I'm on a fence here .. trying to determine whether the price bump difference of $600.00 is justifiable in the later configuration and from the way I am looking at it - seems solid enough

What do you guys say ?

Yeah, the embargo dates are usually for CPUs and GPUs, which don't apply to this 13 since everything has already been released. The OLED doesn't fit either - the same panel has been in the R2 for ages. In this particular instance, the most likely answer is that they simply de-prioritized the 13 since it is the smallest seller among their lineup and resources (engineering, design, testing etc) are finite, or, maybe, during the engineering/design/testing early on they found something that forced a do-over.

That's too bad. Already got a toshiba xg3 coming. Was rushing thinking the laptop would arrive on time then a pm961 came up.
As for killer wifi cards I left the 1435 or what ever it is. No point putting a 1535 in cos I've got one sister. I'm going to prob order an intel version in case I don't like them. But in the past the killer 1202 was better than the intel ac 7260 by far in terms of gaming and lag. But this 8265 sounds interesting.

I had the 1366x768 in the 13r1 when they first released was very washed out and i didn't like it all, I would say the 1080p screen is the minimum option really on this.
