Did you just collect yours? And from where? I just rang up the apparent numbers and reckons the office is closed so I spoke to no one

Managed to find out that uk mail seem to cover ALL uk orders from dell it seems. I thought it was various senders. I found out that my parcel that was in Lutterworth, had moved again and that trying my order number with uk mail was verified and in my city. Which was 5 min drive dorm the road. But it shuts at 12. If only my wife got my butt up rather than letting me have a lie in to then read the comments here dead late.
Monday it is as they don't open Sunday either of course

89 was the max and he got 85 max in Battlefield 1. The averages were below 70. Umar went from basically idle temps to a game. Caiges looks like he stressed out the system for awhile on different benchmarks and games, so I suspect some of the temps were sustained (he even mentions as such).

Some games push temps harder. Fact! I do t think 89 shouldn't be achieved. In fact i find it difficult to believe below 69c and maintain it in all games not possible. At least not from any I experience I've had. If you can check the notebooks I've had in the past in my signature then you can see I'm why I wouldn't believe possible to maintain.
I've seen temps in 60s but I wouldn't surprised in the slightest it reaching in the 80s

I'm just not that overly concerned about it. I'm going to repaste because I can and that I think I can do a better job, not because I think I'm fixing any sort of flaw. I think things are being blown out of proportion, especially on reddit

I think Mid 80's while gaming isnt that bad really, as you said i re pasted my 15 but only because i had to strip it down to fix an out of line hinge, they had screwed the screen on and trapped the wifi antenna in the hinge, so while it was apart it got pasted... Huge improvement though I'm glad i did

The only explanation is the fan curve let it get to 89. You can see a good 10c once it averaged out so the Alienware 13 capable of cooling it just the fan profile + heatsink + bad paste job is disaterous.

That's why iunlock gets such better temps he uses LM/pad and makes sure the heatsink is on proper. Caige didn't use LM that's why his temps are only slight better

You think mx-4 paste is any good anyone. It's proper thin. No used to the way it covers when the plates on. Contact looks weak compared to ic diamond.

I agree the fan curve is terrible.

Without fan performance turned on mine maxes out mid 80's both cpu and gpu this is after repaste with Grizzly Kryo.

With fan performance turned on max is mid to low 60's.

Overall I love the 13 and will give the 15 away to a family member.

Fan performance is loud but not annoying loud like some other units I have had like Razer blade. However without fan performance enabled the system never cranks up to that same speed as bios puts it at.

Gaming under load, the system runs very quiet, but I would rather Dell add a lower temp threshold and crank the fans up at around 78 would be awesome.

I guess to sum it up, fan performance sound is loud enough that unless I plan to set down for a good long gaming session, I wont enable it.

    Sorry, confused by your post....

Tell me if my paraphrase is correct

On default settings...the AW13 is fairly quiet under load compared to other gaming laptops

On fan performance mode...the AW13 is much louder and you'd like to avoid using it unless you know you'll be stressing the system for hours.

    Correct?

    Correct.

The system without fan performance enabled is super quiet, actually surfing and normal work I cant hear it on.

Gaming its very moderate not loud at all, however your temps even after a normal repaste not LM will be in the 80's low 90's.

But with fan performance on your temps stay around 60's very impressive but again the noise is a tad annoying.

I don't know what percentage the fans are running at mid 80's temps but if I guessed I would say 50%?

Dell should at least increase that to 75% imho.

Can some of you post pictures of your AW13 next to other objects or other laptops for scale? Photographs on the few reviews there are aren't that helpful. There are no stores near me where they sell it so I can't walk in and have a looksee.

So I love these new Alienware's and the design of it.

I like the 13" form factor the most since I like to travel as light as I can but still want to carry a lot of power.

I want the OLED screen but should I be concerned about burn in/IR in the future? Let's say 2-3 years down the road?

In anticipation of receiving delivery of my new AW13 this week I’m looking at getting a second power supply.

I've read reports that Dell laptops will not charge the battery when using a non-proprietary AC power supply which would mean forking out for one on Dells ridiculous prices. And I'm also unsure whether power supplies for other Dell laptops or AW15 or 17 will fit AW13s. Can anyone shed any light on this?

This was enough to put me off and the likliehood of the OLED reducing battery life which is why I went with the IPS display.

Is it worth shelling out on another. 1tb nvme to raid it? I'm not looking for insane speeds just the thought of extra storage with a massive os with a total of 2tb?

Keep in mind you're also doubling your storage power consumption. Unless you want the speeds, I wouldn't do it (unless you absolutely need the space too).

Also the very real risk of the Raid array falling over and total data loss which is a ball ache at best.....

Just put another drive in side by side and run the apps/games off that? you wont notice any real world performance gain from 2x m2's raided, imho

If the r3 is like the previous AW13's the raid option is in the bios but you can't actually raid drives. There is no option for creating a raid setup.

I'm not concerned about burn in- but I read Anandtech's Lenovo X1 Yoga with OLED screen a little while back, and they complained pretty mightily about both "ghosting" and color shift off-access. I'm confused about both of these since OLED is supposed to have extremly low latency response time to prohibit ghosting issues. Color shift hasn't shown up in the video reviews I've seen in a few places...so again, not sure why Anandtech noticed these issues.

    http://www.anandtech.com/show/10697/the-lenovo-thinkpad-x1-yoga-review/6

I know that this is for a different laptop altogether...but I'm assuming that theren't aren't too many sources for OLED screens as of yet, and since the Lenovo takes an LG panel, and AW appears to go with LG as well....

Have you new owners noticed any of these problems with the AW13 R3 model in your hands??

As the the other guy responded. I don't need the extra speed gains as I won't notice but I dunno if I need the space. It's been a while since I owned 1tb. Forgot how I filled it up lol.

As for raid failing on one drive. I'm aware of the possibility. But using the drive separately is horrible to install games from what I did to install. It's a storage drive and the folders are just a mess and if need to reinstall the other drive I steel need to click install again.

From 1/12/16 that is normal, it normally takes about 4 working days to hit UK then it should update as being at Lutterworth before being moved to your local UK Mail.
Mine seems to be taking forever to reach the UK, maybe they sent it via a boat by mistake :)

does it get bright enough that glare is not a problem? I had an XPS 15 4k and I sent it back as it was like a mirror and I couldn't live with the amount of glare. Praying the 13 is bright enough that it is not an issue

Got mine this morning uk 11am. Not impressed with the way it was packed. Opened it and it's just the bare laptop upside down on its back. So no plastic sleeve like other laptops come. But I'm holding it. Best laptop EVER! No homo but I love it
It's premium and just so damn sleek. Perfect profile size. Better than a lot of people's desktop.
I thinks I will get refresh if it's close to 50% performance increase. Makes it level to a 1070 unless other 13-14 uses second tier gpu rather than 3rd tier aka 1160 gtx.

I'm getting this to the desktop now. Then going to back up the recovery then switch off add my 1tb in and 16gb ram then install so games.
Swear it's like having a new gf and your dead happy with her for real...and I got a wife

But other laptops Ive owned was just shy of been perfect for me. So far nothing. Even the dedicated buttons are perfect. That was my only gripe in the p34w as it was not level and horribly clicky. But I know dell doesn't cos I've owned some in the past. If the touchpad can refrain from an obvious oily patch from use. Then 10/10 for me. If it does then 9/10. If it had a 1070. I'd Devore my wife and marry it instead

Will look to do some. At the moment just trying to work out how to make a recovery USB as never done one with dell or alienware. Last time I did one with dell it was a latitude e6440 and it was simple to use. Dunno what's going on now. Had to read online to find out what to install. Taking ages. Then I can load my 1tb in and put lots of games on. Of interest to me right now. Forza horizon 3. Gears of war 4 and GTA v as the current ones that are hungry but I'll add more games too like rainbow siege and dying light.
My wife doesn't know about the comment I said about divorcing her lol but I showed her and she was wowed whilst messing with the keyboard and touch pad colours to all sorts, that she could barely get her words out and then asked "can I have it!" Of course I told her no but then she prompted so Alienware do some sort of tablet hybrid version. So it definitely a very nice and impressive machine. If you on the fence. Just order one. If you done like it. Send it back in 14 days. Nothing lost.

I am interested to hear how gears 4 runs as I am contemplating buying it.

I have 2 AW13s coming so will benchmark them both for temps etc when they arrive
