I'm gonna do the same if my MX100 doesn't work. Let us know if the Transcend works once you get it in.

    @ Th4tRedhe4d: you have a "classic" MX100? (not an M2 format) ? :)

Laptop has been delivered... to the first stop. Now onto the next stop soon.
Packaging didn't look damaged, so define that as you will. Though packaging looks bland. The only thing making it stand out is the Alien head.

I think there should be no worries if the outer box is a bit damaged, because there's another inner black Alienware box being packaged along with it. There's a hard foamy covering inside the Alienware box covering your laptop's top side. It fits so snugly, I don't think the laptop is able to be shaken around loosely.

Well on AWA, two people ran into trouble using the GTX 860m with the i7. The only solution found is modifying the .inf file nvdmi.inf while having the driver signing disabled.

Hello guys ! im quite happy :) and feel like sharing with you. Finally yesterday the i7 option became available over here in Holland.
I ordered one instantly, I ordered the QHD + 256SSD + i7 variation. Normal price is: 1530 euro. but I paid with some tricks(vip codes) 1243 euro(shipping included
Which I think is a nice deal :D

Thats exactly right! The trick is to let dell(website) accept 2 VIP codes. Which will make your discount 2 x 10 % :).
I managed to do this by getting a VIP student code and VIP employer code. Also important ( I tried for hours) is to select the alienware 13 trough the VIP section of the website, otherwise it also wont work.

    Hello everyone,

I just got my Alienware 13 with the i7 a week early! I'm little worried about the condition of the base of the laptop, mine came with a long annoying scratch and scuff marks. Did any of your laptop have scratches on the base of the laptop? Is this normal for alienware laptops to get scratches? I'm coming from a Dell Inspiron 1520 (they have scratch resistance bottom so it's extremely hard to scratch them) and I'm worried if this will get scratches easily.

Adding since I have a second M.2 slot to use.
The big question is what screw I am going to use to hold down the additional M.2.

I see the i7 option with the QHD display has been pulled from the store (at least in Ireland and France). Must be a shortage of displays or something? Looking forward to seeing some benchies on the i7, starting to waver again and thinking about the 15 instead for an additional 200 euros.

I follow this thread since the first post.

But only as passive watcher xD
now i've to tell you sth

I saw the following on this side

In that pdf (seems to be original from DELL) You can see this:

    Discrete:
    Controller

    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M

    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M

What does that mean

Will we get an 960 in the 13, soon !!!!!!?????????

    EDIT:
    It is original

Boy, I wouldn't like that. My i5 13 came in new-looking condition. Hopefully later today I can say how my i7 13 looks.
If I was you I would be worried I got a refurb or demo unit and would likely get it exchanged. In my opinion, if you buy something advertised as new it should arrive looking and functioning as new.

That seems to be the case. However, don't get too excited. The GTX 960m is an overclocked rebrand of the GTX 860m.

If you ordered it with the 256gb ssd, no worries, the board that is holding the M.2 has a second slot, and will come with a screw to hold it down.
I just installed a samsung M.2 which I got from ebay.

I just got my system yesterday and today I got around installing a second ssd. When I open the back to my surprise, the ssd is not a samsung but a lite-on. I feel a little cheated.
I went out and bought a second sdd from samsung to match it. Dell.

I'm actually glad I didn't get the Samsung M.2 since it is TLC. The LiteON M.2 is MLC.

The L9G is based off of the L9m (mSATA), and the L9M is MLC.
If you google the M.2, you should see this under the amazon link, which is dead:

Its not normal, I would be concerned that this was a unit someone returned and accidentally got put into the store of new systems. I would definitely return it myself and push for an upgrade of some kind or a price break. That kind of crap is just unacceptable.

Yeah very strange. Also here in Holland the QHD + i7 option is gone. Also since when is the i7 5500u a quadcore processor ? . Looking at the AW 13 section of the Alienware site and then the 3th option,
    it says processor : i75500u quadcore, 4mb, turboboost 3hz.

Did you manage to order the AW 13 with the double VIP discount ?

Yes, very strange must be a typo in relation to the mention of quadcore. Tried for a couple of hours to get the double discount but no luck I'm afraid even when selecting the AW13 directly from the VIP site. I might wait a while for the QHD option to reappear again. I would like a portable laptop for travel abroad, but would also really like the full quad core as I do a lot of development work in Visual Studio. So hard to make a decision between the 13 and 15!

In Germany you have the choice between - wait a minute- 2 INCREDIBLE configurations.
Yes, its no typo - 2!! configurations, and no I7 option.
I really wonder what the matter is with alienware germany - compared to the US site (and even french site) the german side seems like a stone age site.
    Alienware Germany - ridiculous

I am in England and the alienware website is also saying "Intel Core™ i7-5500U Quad Core Processor (4M Cache, up to 3.00 GHz)" must be a mix up? A very important mix up! Also if you choose the i7 in England you don't get the option of the FHD LCD nor an SSD.

I need to order soon and this is all confusing me a little :/

It has half the cores, uses roughly 25% of the power, and still manages to fall within 10% of the performance of the 920xm. Keep in mind how expensive the 920xm was 5 years ago.

Yes this is very true and the battery life that the alienware 13 has is admirable, got around 30-40 minutes of playing Ryse son of Rome on it and still had 50% battery left. Just wasn't impressed enough to keep it since it didn't feel like a huge gain over the m15x I already have . Which really isn't a fair comparison since the 13 was built for being extremely mobile not a gaming power house .

    Hi all

The i7 with touch screen became available on the Swedish site a few days back, and I placed an order the same day. Today I saw my order was annulled so I contacted customer service.. they said there was a problem with one of the components in the order and when I asked which one they said it's the display.
Now on the website that option is gone.
Guess they weren't supposed to be sold in Europe :-( At least not yet.

I wish there was some other roughly equivalent laptop that I could order from another company, getting tired of waiting on Dell.

Yeah, Dell is trying to fix this. It is tyical since Broadwell-U just released, so the OEM driver may not detect the hardware configuration (CPU + GPU) correctly. We should be getting a fix next week.
In the mean time, you could modify the .inf files while disabling the driver signing.
