I seem to be getting extremely low physics scores (3996) with my 5500U, any ideas? Should be about 1000 higher compared to everyone's benchmarks here. CPU temps are maxing out at 77 (GPU at 67, not throttled there)

Have you enabled the overclock options in the BIOS? Or disabled them?
I would test with enabled then disabled.

Thanks for the tip. I ran through all the options and with overclocking/everything disabled, physics jumped up to 4955, resulting in a score of 7683. Using the 347.90 drivers which aren't certified, but that gives me the high spot for the AW 13//970 combo.

Yes, but getting the custom vBIOS was not easy. If you want to get one, you'll have to contact Prema.

Same overclock. Best 13 R1 without GA score in Fire Strike, Sky Diver, and Cloud Gate. I'll never understand Ice Storm, though.
The scores also come close or beat my 13 R1 + GTX 660 scores, though those were benched with an older driver.

What did the Prema bios allow you to do? Overvolt/convert the 860m to a 960m for higher stock clocks?

The vBIOS mod I have is pretty much the same as the one for the GTX 970m and GTX 980m for the bigger laptops.

How specific is the vbios? I mean could you share it, or does prema have it posted anywhere? I haven't loaded a non-stock one in years but when I did, everyone with the same hardware could use the same vbios file.

I'm not super interested in it now, but I would donate a few bucks to prema to get a copy of it if I ever do want to play with it.

The way it's done is not the normal way since the vBIOSes are stored in the main BIOS. The 13 R1 has 3 vBIOSes because there are three versions of the revision. The three versions are
    • Haswell + GTX 860m
    • Broadwell + GTX 860m (the one I have)
    • Broadwell + GTX 960m.
It has to be done on a case-by-case method since each flash contains private data (from what I understand).

Probably the best overclock I can get as anything higher on the core (well, sort of) will crash 3Dmark or reach a power limit.
Will do benches on Windows 7 soon.

Doubt it, the 970 is quite a large jump from the 960. At least a 40% difference in almost all cases, even bigger depending on the game/program. You're looking at 1080P medium settings on the 960 whereas the 970 will play 1080P High/Ultra.

Not really as the previous poster stated. There is a big difference in power. The 960m is very similar to a desktop 750ti. The 970m performance very similar as a desktop 770

I put a Samsung 950 Pro PCIe 512 card in the first M.2 slot and it's really fast, but it's only running at x2 when it can run x4. Anybody have any experience with this? Know how to get it to run at x4?

    Thanks.

    3DMark benchmarks of my 13 R2. CPU is/was undervolted by 50mv.
    Stock clocks.
    3DM11: http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/10916435
    Fire Strike: http://www.3dmark.com/fs/7506459
Overclocked GPU (+135 MHz Core, +495 MHz Mem, +12.5 mV)
3DM11: http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/10993252 (I do have another in which the combined is slightly higher but the graphics, physics, and overall score is slightly lower)
    Fire Strike: http://www.3dmark.com/fs/7713790
The overclocked core was 14MHz faster than my maxed overcloked core (+303 MHz) on my old GTX 860m.
Note that the physics scores and 3DM11 combined scores are lower than the stock clock runs. Might have ran into a power draw issue (I used a 150w charger for my 13 R1 runs instead of the stock 130w charger). Or it could be something with the power plans (I don't know if I used balanced or high performance for the stock clocks, but I used high performance for the overclock runs).
On the side of temperatures (for the overclocked), having the fans run at max and giving an open bottom for the laptop, temps were below 70 C for the CPU (don't know exact, but it's between 65 C and 69 C at most) and at max 66 C for the GPU. These are pretty similar to what I got for my 13 R1 overclocked runs (except I didn't run the fans on max all the time with the 13 R1).
