The article mentions that some current intel motherboards will not support the 16GB modules, but I'm sure that will be fixed in the next revision.

You might be right, I didn't read all the way through.
This page talks about the 16Gb modules with current mobo (I think)

That's where I got the impression it may work on some, but not all!!!
I did mention in the original post that not all motherboards where currently supported. -
The main reason I didn't buy into the 2015 models was the lack of an (apparent) upgrade path to 32GB of RAM. So yes, this would help.
