Hello all, new to the forum. Just received my new 17 R4 (6600hq/1070) and so far have been pleased with its performance. I wanted to find out if the fan noise is supposed to be this loud; I've never dealt with gaming laptops before and only have experience with computers I built.
I made sure the fan performance mode is turned off and the temps seemed low enough (GPU was 60C after 15mins in Heaven and CPU ~70C after undervolt). Just seems too loud to me...
Thoughts? Thanks!

Sounds pretty quiet compared to my M17X R2 at full pelt. The noise is quite normal - a lot of it is simply from forcing a lot of air through a small gap.

Clevo Systems that i have are 2 times (P870DM-G) and 4 times ( P870DM3-G) louder than that.Vasudev likes this. -

A laptop will always run louder than a desktop. Mainly because of the volumes of air being pushed. Normal desktops tend to use Axial fans which spin slower at around 1000-2000RPM and cool larger heatsinks (more surface area). Laptops use Radial fans with speeds upward of 3500RPM on smaller heatsinks. You're going to be moving large volumes of air through the heatsinks and you will be generating more noise due to the air movement and the fan rotors spinning.
In short - perfectly fine. If thermals are good, I wouldn't worry. -
Thanks for all the replies, I just find it odd how loud/fast the fans are spinning related to temps. I would assume the fans would ramp up when reaching the throttling temp of the 1070 (80 something?) but if its only hovering around 60 I would think the fans would be slower. Almost like the fan curve has limited settings (0-25-50-75-100%) and not as gradual as I was used to. Good to hear everything seems good, wasn't sure if the fans were compensating because of something else getting too hot.

You can also check the CPU but I'd say you have no reason for concern.
