    Hey guys,

I was playing GTA V last night on the R4 and had to completely disable my OC on the GPU. This new vbios is definitely less stable! Even with a mild GPU +190/400 OC and CPU at 4GHz.

My PCH temps were insanely bad whilst CPU and GPU we're fine in the mid to low 70s.

So the PCH reached 95C at one point! I Definitely need to fix this now, not comfortable any longer. Any advice what I can use and what there's room for?

Also for the NVME SSD to keep that cool as well?

    Cheers

Chipsets are passively cooled - the more load you put on them, the hotter they will be.

Get a laptop cooler. Helps circulate air to pch.

It's a vBios for the 1080 only. There is a micron fix but they hand it out on an as needed basis from what I understand. Either way it is interesting that it would create that much more heat as it does not really change much. Clock speeds are up only marginally and it does not increase the max voltage much to many people's dismay.

Not sure I agree. Max voltage for me has peaked at 210W. Same for @iunlock

Performance increase was up about 7% as well which is great to bring it more into line with competitors like MSI

So back on topic regarding PCH cooling, I'm sure I've seen someone post they applied a pad or a shim and temps went down significantly. Anyone got a link our done this also?

judal got lower temps but i got higher with a heatsink. It blocked the airflow in my case.

Hmm ok, probably safer to go with a shim then. I may get a few for the nvme SSD as well. Is it best to use thermal pad or thermal paste to bind it to the chips?

I dont think so. If it starts to act as a heatshield then you are worse of. It needs volume and airflow. It doesnt have both in such a case.

i changed the heatsink for 3 layers of fujipoly thermal pad directly above the chip, and on the other side of the motherboard i put 1 layer of thermal pad (2mm tickness) to ensure the contact to the keyboard aluminum chasis, my temperature are better now. in fact i dindt see the number yet, but i played like 8 hours without rest of battlefield 4, with a high overclock and no thermal throttling at all.

Thanks! Which thermal pad did you use?
