    Hi All,

I have bought dec 2016 the new 17 laptop r4 with gtx 1080 and the 6th generation of I7 and I was wondering if it is compatible to upgrade with the latest kaby lake 7th generation of I7? or it require a different motherboard? also anyone already know if the new i7 extreme the ones that is just lauch yesterday together with i9 or even the i9 will be possible to upgrade in this laptop? or it will use different chipset, sizes and new motherboard will be required?

    Many thanks,
    Testa

KabyLake would more or less require new board. More likely because CPU and GPU are soldered so no way you can upgrade in future. Also, core i9 TDP are too much to handle on laptop, in the coming years we would more likely see hexa or octa cores.

BGA all soldered in, no upgrading.

Could possibly swap the motherboards. Everything should line up the same.
