So we all know the worst part of a new computer is the dreaded first install. Well I will say it is at least faster these days than in the past. Problem is the latest Alienwares put the breaks on that.

On my laptops I ordered a few months back you installed the "normal" way simply enter some info in to setup your account, uncheck all the crap they try to toss at you and done.

Now on all the laptops I have ordered you get introduced to the worst of windows 10 right from the start... cortana.

Yep turn it on and you get to wait around and listen to some cortana adverts now and delay your install time. It is just really annoying to need to mute your computer as the first action upon turning it on, well that and then promptly disabling the microphone.

Please just let me install windows asap so I can proceed to uninstalling things as quickly as possible. Maybe it is time to replace step 1 press power button with step 1 insert windows boot disk. (you know to just format a clean install from square one)

    Ah nice guide!

I am at least thankful that most of this crap can be disabled via GPO policies but what does piss me off is they do not let you disable the dam lock screen adds unless you have W10 enterprise or education.

Really ? I have a local account then a MSN account and I see no ad's on the lock screen, maybe something to do with that ? I also remember seeing a option that shuts off "Tips and Tricks and suggestions" on the lock screen tho I cant seem to remember where the option was.

It is not on first login it is if you lock the system or it gets locked from screen time out. There is then a chance it will put ads in your lock screen. I think individual users can opt out but employees usually do not adjust settings like that by themselves.

Hmm, didn't have any issues like that while installing W10. Maybe Cortana isn't as invasive in my country. And the install itself was super quick on a 960 EVO (after I figured out how to feed the installer the necessary drivers).
