    Hi,

I own Alienware 17 2013 and looking for an upgrade. Since I know Alienware's are not any good now (unless they come up with something better this year). Which laptop should I look into and yes I am all for high performance laptop with good cooling just like Alienware.

This, plus you can upgrade the GPU's rather than throw away the new BGA disposable Alienware laptops.

My Alienware has been great for me, but if you're looking for ultimate performance and the ability to upgrade, that Eurocom Sky looks pretty good. Bring your checkbook though. :)

It's not any more expensive than a tricked out new M18xR1, M18xR2 or Alienware 18 were/is... just more powerful and with nicer (although 1" smaller) screens, dual AC adapter, etc.

What config and where are you getting it from? In Europe, no point getting from Eurocom you'll be raped by taxes.. Get it from a European reseller like CEG, XMG and for 4000 euros you'll get a great config..

    Wait a minute,

The P77xZM/ Batman or the new DM / Batman 2.0 and the new Sky DLX 7 / Wingman they too look badass :p !!

The new Alienwares look like babies in front of the former machines (Avenger/ Avenger Mark II, Viking, Ranger / M17x R4, even the names sound cool but new machines are called Echo - A former echo left behind, BGA) .

Plus the internals pack power that It'd last 5 years, the older Alienwares also lasted that long since they didn't sacrifice any performance nor the coolest look ;).

Just go with a Eurocom / Mythlogic machine of the Batman 2.0 or Wingman and they'll give you a good time, trust us !

Ps - Checkout NBR marketplace, people have P77xZMs and good machines for a better price.

You can save 500 dollars on your computer if you order your 4k display seperately on ebay. The AUO screen is very easy to find, and it is a drop in replacement compatability-wise. You might need extra shims or whatnot in the lcd assembly, but hey, 500 dollars.

I've had good experiences with XMG, decent prices (and they will negotiate if you contact them - I purchased my XMG P505 through mysn.co.uk but there is also a German site), great customer support, and they don't use nasty stick on logos on their models, just a subtle lazer etch XMG logo on the laptop lid.

Personally I find the "boy racer" style of the Alienware machines a bit naff and prefer the more understated look of the XMG/Clevo machines, especially in the matte black finishes XMG offer

Let me one up you on that... CEG has no logos :p... I've just found XMG to be slow in giving me a quote for barebones so CEG got my business.. So far no complaints here but nothing has broken :p

Not everyone has been impressed with CEG's customer service: http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/my-experience-with-ceg.774292/

But he may just have been unlucky

I also prefer the matt black sandblasted case finish XMG use rather than the brushed finish CEG use, with the back of the laptop marked out in black rather than silver, but that's just personal aesthetic choice and makes no difference to how well the machine runs, obviously!

Or, use HIDevolution to get a Eurocom machine, with branding, @Prema firmware and all the good stuff. That might help with the demonically abusive taxation. You can even get 4K G-SYNC now if you really want that.

As a designers I wish Clevo did a better job in creating a style for their laptops (hell they could even hire me and I will give them some cad renders ready to go).

My opinion, want a laptop that you can take with you everyday? Nothing beats a AW15 in terms of portability & performance balance (and I tried a lot of laptop, 4 types in 2015 alone). If it is staying on your desk pretty much permanently of using a car to transport your laptop? THan the P77xZM is a nice laptop. The Sky I felt the build quality is just less good.

i agree, i had 3 diff machines, they had best looks / portability comparing others, but again bro u have to sacrifice something

u need peformance = bulky laptops / less stylish
u need style = slimmer laptops / less performance

only one suggestion if u want a desktop replacement go for Eurocom. if ur more like a travelling guy and u need ur laptop for sure, check on aorus, or cleve new edition with 970m SLI, its slim and better portability, cost less as well, but def not alienware.. but whatever people say or i learnt from crap BGAs, i still cant give up on the style of alienware..

Well I had really thin laptops like a Gigabyte (same brand as Aorus pretty much but with a duller style). The build quality was extremely bad and I got it exchanged 3 times but all had issues). I dont believe that in this performance bracket it is possible to go much thinner than an Alienware of a Clevo (BGA laptop). MSI does this well enough but no battery life to speak off and the screenlid is flimsy.

i agree, alienware, asus did good base design, but screwd up in thermal management.. could have done much better with the mobo BGA thing and a better heatsink.. thats where the big boys shine, i mean the Eurocom..
