I'm looking at either getting the Alienware 15 or the Razer Blade. The specs in the Alienware 15 are what I really want but I'm concerned about what I'm reading in regards to temps. Also, I've had alienwares in the past and there's always been some issue or another. I just want my laptop to work the way it was intended. I am moving to china on the 31st so I need to get a good gaming laptop (that's portable and can be used for work) ASAP. I don't have time to RMA / deal with defects. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I would recommend neither. Both have issues. The AW is plagued by its heatsink problem and Razer quality control is pretty abysmal. An Aorus X5 or Clevo P650RS would be a safer (obviously not guarenteed) bet to avoid hardware problems.

Perhaps get something in China so it can be serviced. Clevo is definitely in China.

It's a tricky choice :( Both the Aorus and Clevo have overheating issues, noise issues, as well as average speakers. It looks like Alienware is slowly improving QA on the A15R3, but it's still up to luck so just make sure to return the unit you get if you are not satisfied :)

general consensus is that there's always a caveat to high end laptops, so you will need to to some tweaks or adjustments either way.

new alienwares are great but they seem to have cooling prpblems due to improper thermal paste/pad usage, so if you have the opportunity, get thermal grizzly kyonaut, get the alienware, and make them repaste with the kryonaut for you.

i'd stay away from the razer blade

The new ones come with reci\tified thermal pads which caused the issue. So you should receive a better unit. They constantly update the machine regarding to feedback. So you probably have a better machine now than 2 months ago.

The issue with the alienware was caused by using too thick a thermal pad on the chokes. This issue has been corrected and has resolved the uneven heatsink problem. Especially if you are ordering a new unit with a Kaby Lake chip you have nothing to worry about. As is always the case you can repaste if you want additional performance.

I'd generally avoid Razer. Their customer support is atrocious and their QC/QA is also very bad.

if you can get the newer AW15 revision then all the issues that you've read about are fixed. Dell got in contact with users from this forum who discovered the issue and they worked together to resolve them. From what I've read, they are pretty much fixed for a stock system.

It is an MSI, its not a Clevo. its sort of a variant of the GT62VR.

I have an AW15r3 and have no trouble whatsoever, doesn't even need a repaste, I use it mainly for gaming and while it's under warranty I have no troubles turning OC LVL 1 and play Fallout 4, Dark Souls 3, CS GO, SC2 everything @ maxed out

I have no experience with Razer blade or know anyone who have one to compare though
