Just received a shiny AW17 equipped with a 7820HK, 1080, and the 2560x1440 GSync screen. Still has the stock Windows 10 install on it coupled with the also stock Nvidia Control Panel 381.83.

While loading up some games to give it a test, I received a slap in the face via a random black screen that arose. External monitor continued to work fine, but only way I could get the desktop back was to sleep the computer and bring it back up. System went straight to the login screen and no further issues arose...for 10-15 minutes.

The random black screen has shown itself four or five times in about two hours now. Sleep, power up, and it functions again fine; it also works fine if I close the lid and open it back up. The backlight remains on, but the whole screen is dark. System is sitting on a wooden desk with plenty of airflow and no temperature issues via GPUz/CPUz. All power settings which I thought might be a culprit were disabled.

I have not been around many Windows systems since Win7, so I am definitely out of the game for more than my fair share of time. In my youth, perhaps I would have taken the masochist approach of a full reformat and reinstall. Those days are likely behind me though...

Anyone have any ideas as to whether this is a driver issue or perhaps some manner of hardware that I ought be concerned about?

    ------
    Update

System has been fine for about one or two hours now. Light flash games posed no issues. CSGO went fine. Ran Furmark stresses with the GPU up to ~84 degrees centigrade, and still no problems.

Going to walk away from the system for the night to see how things develop.

    ------
    Update 2

Wonderful - system sits still for five minutes, I opt to peruse Facebook to source some old photos of the kids, and a few minutes in the screen goes dark again.

I would start by wiping the drivers using DDU and go with a fresh install from Nvidia. If this still does not work I would probably re-install Windows just to rule that out. If it persists through that your going to need to contact support as it sounds like a possibly bad GPU.

Removed video drivers, no luck. After 381.83 was removed, but before 385.69 was installed I ran into the same issue twice more.

Now we have a fabulous new winner, also addressed by closing the lid and opening it back up. Was a bit horrifying as I was watching a video when this popped up and started going all Saw on me.

Hi. Now with the recent problem I would suggest to do a Built-In Self Test to check if the LCD is disconnected as shown on this video. If so the system may require a hardware replacement, please feel free to send me your information via private message to help you.
