Just bought my second Alienware from Best Buy. Still have my 17r3 with UHD display. But the new r4 really is only 6bit color output??? WTF and nvidia control panel doesn't even give me any options to add custom res or anything. I've tried everything mainly several different drivers and switching to discrete graphics only which really doesn't work and still 60hz or 48hz at 6-bit color. This is a joke for real. Am I missing something here guys? Specs are usual 1070/7700hq/hyper X ram/raid m2 ssd and 6bit color. I'm really impressed with this 1070 also. I have a graphics amp with my 17r3 with a 1080 in it and this 1070 mobile really holds its own hooked up to a real monitor. But 6bit????? I'm debating returning if there is no solution. I have pulled the 4k screen and EDP cable from my 17r3 but only to find out the FHD display is 30 pin crap but motherboard is 40pin.

    Any help guys.
    Thanks.

Many fhd ips panels in gaming laptops offer 6bit color per channel. Thus being 18but total with dithering to turn it i to 24bit.

Yes, most panels Fhd, are 6 bit or sometimes 8bit, but mostly 6bit.
You not really notice any difference between 6 and 8 bit though on an ips.

However having had the 4K AUO panel on last years Alienware r3 4k you will certainly noticed a difference as that panel is 10 bit, but more importantly also has a wide colour gamut. Sometimes I thought colours looked overdone but on software or games (gta5, ac creed synidycate) that used wide colour looked really nice.

The best FHD panel to have on this years r4 is the lg Phillips (the Fhd panel can ship with AUO or chemi) but skylake usually ship with lg Phillips which is overclockable, nice colours and the anti glare coating isn't a hard coating like the AUO, which looks a bit grainy.

QHD panel looks washed out compared to Fhd, I had that panel 1st before returning to the get the 1080p Fhd panel.
