Re opening thread on this sub
hi guys I need some help
    My machine just arrived
I already followed sk’s guide to replace the thermal pad and paste
    I’ve been using phobya hegrease
I got decent temperatures on the 2800
It managed to contained under 70 Celsius without under-volt it
But the cpu, even I under volt with -120mv
It’s still going up to 101 Celsius during r20
I tried to repaste it but still the same and I think the paste job was alright
Then I underclcok it to 4.5 ghz and it went down abit to 95 during r20 test
But what I heard from the forum is with only -80mv they can get like 80 Celsius with the cpu
I think I will fry the cpu if I start to game with these temperatures
    Anyone have any suggestions ?

Was this happening before the re-paste?

Actually never turned on before I do the repaste...
The idle temperatures is around 30 Celsius so I think it rule out the heatsink not tight issue?

Is not nice to see your CPU going to 100°c but it won't fry... @100°c your CPU Will thermal throttle, which means the CPU itself Will downclock to keep temperatures under or equal 100c. The CPU won't melt at that temperature don't worry

Does this happen with fans at full speed? What tool are you using for the undervolt?

I know the cpu itself won’t damage
But the other component near will
And I just doesn’t understand why other people getting so much better result while mine doesn’t, just want to know why

I think it can be either one of these things :

    1. There is an issue with the re-paste.
    2. There is an issue with the heatsink.
    3. The CPU has issues.

I would take apart the laptop and remove the heatsink to see the contact patch. If contact is good, then it's option 2 or 3. If so, you will have to contact Dell and tell them the CPU hover-heats too easily and that severely affects performance. Ask for a replacement laptop or for a technician to replace the heatsink and CPU.

There are a lot of factors that comes to my mind:

*Ambient temperature: 1°c More in ambient temperature will increase the Max temperature in 0.5 to 1°c on the CPU
*Not all CPU are the same. Some people is more lucky than others with the binning process, so their CPU can run at the same frequency at lower voltage which means less heat. The CPU offset voltage is fixed but the CPU voltage is calculated by the CPU based on it's own voltage-frequency curve
*Are the people which you are referring at using the same tool to test stability? Cinebench r20 is a pretty heavy load CPU test. Testing 20 minutes of R20 on a Q9900 over 4 GHz will produce a lot of heat. I don't believe that under normal conditions guys are getting mid 80°C ...screenshots or Fake,... Close to 100°C seems more believeble

    Wow dude you are right
I just tried to run for heaven and not r20
The temperature is totally fine, both around 60 degrees only
Then I tried to run cod
Cpu at 55 degrees and 2800 around 65
    Seems pretty normal
The guy saids 80 on r20 is on the thread about undervolt guide , he didn’t show screenshot though
Think even on r20 I got 95 degrees
But if gaming is like under 70 it’s good enough for me...
    thanks a lot
