    Hi All,

I have Alienware 15, with up to date drivers for Intel HD and Nvidia. I have just purchased Acer XB280HK (Supports 4k - 60hz) I have miniDP to DP cable. (cheap)

Monitor does not work if I move Refresh rate to anything above 24p. (59/60)

I have plugged the monitor with the same cable to my friends PC and it work fine.

    Should I contact Alienware/Dell?

    Any help will be appreciated!

Since you said miniDP, I assume you have a 15 R1. The iGPU can display 4K at 60 Hz, and the miniDP is connected to the iGPU. You could use the latest Intel Graphics drivers from Intel (you'll have to uninstall your current drivers in order to install it; use DDU), and make sure the adapter you have supports Display Port 1.2.

Could be an issue with mdp to dp cable that is incompatible with AW 15 TB2/3 port?

Wait, do you have an R1 (has miniDP port) or an R2 (has USB C/TB 3 port)? Because even the HD 530 should display 4K @ 60Hz.
That said, if the software tips don't help, it could be your adapter.

I have miniDP port at the back of my Alienware. I have tired to use the latest drivers for Intel hd 4600 as well as for Nvidia 970.
The display shows no signal, even that Windows sees the monitor while set on 60hz. (Changing of the resolution doesn't help). When I change the refresh rate to 24hz it starts working. However it feels horrible as you may imaging.

I have a cable (no adaptors/converters) miniDP to DP. I have plugged the monitor using the same cable to my friends PC and it just worked, without configuration changes.

    Any ideas will be great

Okay, so it is the R1.
Ignore the GTX 970m. It's irrelevant to the problem at hand.
Have you tried 30Hz, 48Hz, or 59Hz? Weird that Windows allows it, but your monitor doesn't want to show anything.

I have 23,24 59 and 60 in the Intel HD Control Panel.

    23 and 24 works. 59/60 doesnt.

I have also just realized that alienware 15 doesn't support G-sync which is really annoying. The only reason I bought this monitor was for it.
