Is there a list of which M.2 SSDs that can fit into the Alienware 13? I have seen different sizes and I am not sure which size to get and which manufacture makes drive for the system. Thanks in advance.

2280 SATA M.2s. Just with this information, you can find compatible M.2s. Smasung, Cruical, Transcend, etc. work in the 13.

The Samsung 850 EVO is probably the fastest of all of them (currently available).

Does anyone know if the 850 evo M.2 will work in the new AW models that take the pciex4 SSD's?

I know it won't run any faster, but will it work full stop?

Nope, they are not compatible. I think they sell adapters, though. But that may be only for desktops.

Especially the 500GB version, it's one of the fastest SATA SSD's tested!

I think that they maybe will, I looked into a bit more. PCIe x 4 SSD's still use the M.2 form factor and the spec shows that the M keyed (PCIe x4) connector has 4 PCIe lanes and a SATA connection.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M.2

The 850 evo M.2 is both B & M keyed so it will definitely fit in the slot, it just depends if they implemented the full PCIe x4 spec to the connector in the new machines. Only time will tell I suppose, once people start getting their hands on them.

I have read of people replacing the 120GB PCIe SSD in the Sony Vaio Pro 13 with the 850 evo 500GB M.2 and it works for them, so there's hope!

Crucial Advisor tool lists all compatible RAM and SSD for a specific selected computer model - Crucial brand components only, of course.

Also reading carefully recent Samsung announcements they hinted very strongly that higher capacity m.2 modules, above 500GB, with SATA and with PCIe interfaces will be released by the end of 2015, possibly early 2016. Today, I would buy Samsung 850 EVO 500GB.
