I have been scouring alot of posts about the R3 and i concluded i needed to make a profile and ask questions. I am unsure if they only apply to the ones purchased from Dell specifically.
AW17R3-3758SLV is the model of the one that is at the BestBuy by my house and i was wondering if upgrading the RAM to 16 or 32 gbs is still possible as well as upgrading the m2 slot to a 512 950 pro.
I have been out of the tech game for a while so bare with me if i question any acronyms i do not recognize.

Hello there and welcome...although I'm pretty new here myself...

Yes, the 17" R3 can be maxed out to 32GB of RAM. Here's the link.

    Yes, I have two 512GB Samsung 950 m.2's in mine :)

    Hope this helps!

Does it matter that it is from best buy i guess is the best way to put it. I know some manufacturers will make Best buy specific models (I.E. ASUS ROG had some) there is one open box by the hous so i can get it for 1400 and then upgrade it to my liking.

What are the specs of the laptop for 1400?

There are only two versions of 17" R3's....one with BGA and one with MXM gpu's, while everything else is pretty much the same, including the soldered nightmare. J/K, but it is a major bummer for some due to it being more proprietary than previous variants.

You can still repaste it no problem.

I am the same way about being able to upgrade everything under the sun, however with the new 17" R3 and the i7-6700 or i7-6820HK Over clockable, I'm not worried about anything. Let alone the graphics amplifier option.

so with the 6700 it is not overclockable? is that the biggest thing that dell wont let you do?

Correct. The 6700 is locked. I'd just opt for the 6820HK...it's a monster and extremely future proof.

Lobot, I noticed no one answered you. If you bought the one for 1649.00 you have the 4k screen. No need to look as you have the best. That only applies to the FHD screens.

The Best Buy machine is a beast and a great deal.1

I purchased it and love it so far. my only issue as of now is my intel graphics drivers crash quite frequently when I am just looking around the internet. I updated them all but they read windows 8 and I have windows 10. I have not had time to see if intel themselves have a new update for windows 10.

also I have 32 gb of DDr4 coming by Friday and a 512gb 950 pro coming with it :)

Great stuff! Congrats mate...very happy for you. You're going to have a blast.

Which 32GB sticks (16x2) sticks did you end up getting? Can you list the info including the model number? Thanks.

The 4K screen is a beauty...gaming on it has been amazing....both 4k and in 1080p, although I find myself enjoying 4k more....just unreal....

You'll need to order the m.2 screw. I have ordered these, but these will work as well. M.2x3mm (however, the actual shaft is 2mm.) ...for time sake I have ordered the first link....I guess the extra screws will come in handy later down the road as I build computers for fun....

I have actually been chatting with you on one of my other threads about which SSd to get. Do I need to get a screw if the laptop already came with an m2 installed?
    I got the g.skill 2133hz from newegg for $211.

You'll be able to just use the same screw. All good there.

Is this the exact RAM you've ordered?

    G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 32GB (2 x 16G) 260-Pin DDR4 SO-DIMM DDR4 2133 (PC4 17000) Laptop Memory $189
